Asian Games Football: Three talking points from India's win over Bangladesh
A solitary goal separated the two sides this afternoon!
The Indian national men’s team have finally managed to get their first three points on the board at the ongoing Asian Games. It was a tight game with robust defending on either end and a late penalty being converted by Sunil Chhetri. The Blue Tigers were not the best team on the pitch but have still managed to credit a win to their account.
With this victory, India have climbed to the second spot on the table behind hosts China and now have a realistic chance of going through to the knockouts of the Hangzhou Asian Games.
On that note, let us take a look at the talking points from this clash.
3. Bryce Miranda shines for India
Bryce Miranda was India's best player against Bangladesh. He played his heart out and performed exceptionally well on the left flank. His never-say-die attitude and ability to take on defenders caused a lot of problems for Bangladesh.
Also, it was him late in the second half, who won the crucial penalty for India after he was brought down inside the box. The Kerala Blasters winger put up a good show and helped India clinch their first three points.
2. Bangladesh lose despite being the better side
India might have won the game and have secured three points to their name, but they were the second best side today. Bangladesh were clearly the better side for the majority of the game, but they just couldn’t score a goal.
They defended well, attacked well and did everything to test India. In short, they dominated the game and had their skipper Rahmat Mia not conceded a penalty late in the game, the result would’ve been quite different.
1. Sunil Chhetri saves the day for India in Asian Games
Sunil Chhetri stepped up to save India's day yet again. It was a cagey affair with not many chances being created by either side. Bangladesh were on their toes and defended really well and denied India multiple times from scoring.
But, Chhetri came to India's rescue late in the game as he scored past the keeper from the spot. The Indian captain kept his cool and placed the shot at the bottom corner with a lot of power and sealed the deal for India.
