The Aussie was subbed off in the Durand Cup final against Mohun Bagan.

East Bengal’s Australian powerhouse Jordan Elsey, has suffered a serious knee injury that will keep the player out of action for the next few months, the club confirmed on Monday.

Jordan made his first start for the Red & Gold Brigade in the Kolkata derby on 12 August, and was also an important part of Carles Cuadrat’s plans in the Durand Cup 2023 final against Mohun Bagan.

Unfortunately though, Jordan had to be subbed off in the first half, due to this injury, and the player now looks to work hard towards his recovery.

“We will continue to support Jordan through this difficult phase, and wish him a speedy recovery,” the club stated through their social media handles.

Who is Jordan Elsey?

29-year-old Jordan Elsey is a talented defender, who has a great physical presence and is a quick reader of the game.

Elsey began his youth career in Australia, with Para Hills Knights SC, where he spent six years as a part of the youth development.

As a result of his progress, 14-year-old Jordan got the opportunity to join the Adelaide United academy, where he would go on to spend the next two years, before being loaned back to the Knights, where he started his senior career.

In 2013, Jordan Elsey came back to Adelaide United, and spent the next eight years at the club. He made a total of 124 appearances for Adelaide, and also scored four goals.

Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory were the next two junctures in Jordan’s career, before he set foot off Australia, and joined East Bengal.

Now as Jordan embarks on his recovery journey, Khel Now wishes him the best of luck, and hopes that he can soon get back in action for the Red & Gold Brigade.
