ISL 2023-24: East Bengal declare squad

East Bengal FC to start their ISL campaign playing against Jamshedpur FC.

Ahead of their opening match against Jamshedpur FC on Monday, Indian Super League outfit East Bengal declared a full roster for this upcoming season.

Prior to the 2023–24 season, Carles Cuadrat, who won the Indian Super League with Bengaluru FC, had been named the head coach of the team with Dimas Delgado assisting his services as the new assistant coach. The team will be hoping to improve under Carles and Dimas after finishing third from the bottom in the last ISL season.

With the addition of Carles Cuadrat, East Bengal FC are eager to turn things around in this ISL campaign, which is a long-overdue wish of atonement for the Red & Gold Brigade. East Bengal have already shown glimpses of improvement by making it to the Durand Cup finals earlier this month. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to defeat their arch0rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant, losing 1-0 in a Kolkata derby finale.

East Bengal were able to keep several of their important players for this season, including Naorem Mahesh Singh, Lalchungnunga, Souvik Chakrabarti and Cleiton Silva, who led the team with 12 goals and one assist last season and came close to winning the Golden Boot.

The squad is anticipated to gain a lot with the signing of Saul Crespo, Borja Herrera, and Javier Siverio, all of whom have previous experience in the league. Nandhakumar Sekar, Prabhsukhan Singh Gill, Mandar Rao Dessai, Harmanjot Singh Khabra, and Nishu Kumar are also prominent Indian acquisitions this season.

As indicated by their success in the Durand Cup, the team has thus far shown encouraging form, and they hope to build on this and make even more progress before their first league game. Jordan Elsey's injury, though, may turn out to be a major setback for East Bengal's backline.
