We'll definitely surprise everyone, says Parthib Gogoi
Parthib Gogoi scored a spectacular goal against Mumbai City on 24 September.
Indian Super League (ISL) outfit NorthEast United FC began their new campaign with a hard-fought defeat to the defending league shield winners Mumbai City FC. The Highlanders put up a commendable performance but couldn’t stop the away side from taking all three points.
NorthEast United looked very different with their wonder kid Parthib Gogoi playing a key role. The young forward scored a goal straight from the heavens and brought his side back on level terms before the Islanders scored again.
After the game, Parthib spoke to the ISL media and here’s what he had to say:
Thoughts on the game
The young striker shared his thoughts on the game. He said that it’s a tough loss to take because the team created so many chances. He also remained hopeful that the Highlanders would bounce back.
“Obviously we wanted to win the game and we had so many chances but we couldn’t convert them. It’s a tough one to take, but we move forward,” he asserted.
Scoring in front of the home fans
Gogoi is a local lad and is undoubtedly a fan favourite at NorthEast United. He shared his feelings on how he felt after scoring in front of the Highlander Brigade.
“I will do anything for the team. It’s very good to hear the fans chanting my name. It makes me feel good because this is my home team and scoring in front of them is like a dream,” he said.
Thoughts on the team this year
The Indian international signed off by sharing his thoughts on his side. He said that this year NorthEast United are a surprise package and will compete for the top honours.
“We will definitely surprise everyone. As you saw, we were a surprise package today. And definitely we will fight for the shield and the trophy,” he concluded.
