Ratings: Diaz heroics forces Odisha FC, Mumbai City to share spoils
Jerry Mawihmingthanga scored the opening goal of the game
After two halves of exciting footballing action Mumbai City FC and Odisha FC shared a point each, as the scores were levelled before the end of stoppage time.
Odisha FC is pinned back at home by Mumbai City FC after the final whistle. The Islanders grinded out a 2-2 tie of the ISL game. Mohammad Nawaz made two terrible mistakes that contributed to Odisha's two goals, scored by Jerry and Roy Krishna. Griffiths and Jorge Pereyra Diaz scored for Mumbai City.
Here are the player ratings for the game:
Odisha FC (By: Analoy Majumder)
Amrinder Singh: 7.0
Amrinder displayed eminent effort, making a couple of stops and occasionally showing the awareness to clear the ball without taking any risks. Amrinder looked confident with his performance today, making a couple of solid collections with some positive outings but surely could have done better from the goals he conceded today.
Amey Ranawade: 7.0
Amey Ranawade was quite operative in the sides today for Odisha FC. He made a couple of good tackles and interceptions and did not allow much space to Mumbai City FC forwards.
Carlos Delgado: 7.0
Carlos Delgado was outstanding on the backline today. Made many positive interceptions and gave the MCFC players little room to go into the final third and score goals. Additionally, Delgado provided Odisha FC with strong defensive leadership today.
Mourtada Fall: 7.0
Mourtada Fall delivered as expected, demonstrating enormous trust in the defence line and ensuring that players like Stewart and Diaz do not have much opportunity to convert. Good command when playing alongside Delgado, Jerry, and Ranawade. Every time Odisha FC attempted a set-piece, Fall seemed dangerous.
Puitea: 6.5
Puitea made a big difference in the middle with his fantastic pressing and superb passes playing alongside Jahouh and Lenny Rodrigues. Despite playing a good game, he fell short of supporters' expectations as he couldn't cast his legendary spell.
Ahmed Jahouh: 7.5
As usual, Jahouh was outstanding in the centre of the field. He made several defence-splitting long passes and through balls. Made quite a few good runs with the ball and also executed positive hold up play in the middle and also gave good defensive play to the team.
Jerry M: 7.0
Jerry scored the opening goal for Odisha FC today just before the half time, capitalised the error made by MCFC goalie and was proactive in the final third of Mumbai City FC today.
Jerry Lalrinzuala: 7.5
Jerry Lalrinzuala was phenomenal in the defence today. Won multiple duels against Lallianzuala Chhangte and did not allow him to cruise past him and score goals. Also made some important clearances and denied the MCFC forwards to find the back of the net.
Isak Vanlalruatefla: 6.5
Considering Isak's apparent involvement, it fell short of expectations. Despite a handful of fascinating runs and passes, Vanlalruatefla's performance in the final third was once again quite sloppy.
Lenny Rodrigues: 7.0
Lenny Rodrigues delivered a few passes that split the Mumbai defence, but Mumbai's strong defence kept those chances from going in. Lenny also made a few strong runs in the middle of the field and had a great opportunity to score but opted not to take it. Lenny performed admirably on offence and defence today.
Diego Mauricio: 6.5
Diego Mauricio was not in his best form today, came very close to goal but did not find the back of the net. Created a few goal scoring chances but Odisha FC forwards left to convert. Later in the second half Mauricio was called off and Roy Krishna came in place of him.
Substitutes
Roy Krishna: 9.0
Roy Krishna was brought in place of Diego Mauricio in search of more goals because Sergio Lobera did not want to settle with one point. And Roy Krishna in today’s game once again showed his worth as he scored the second goal for Odisha FC and by putting them ahead against the Islanders.
Princeton: 7.0
Princeton came in the 70th minute in place of Puitea because Lobera was anticipating more creativity in the midfield. Paired well in the middle alongside Jerry and Jahouh and brought in more participation in the attacks created by Odisha FC.
Sahil: 6.5
Sahil was brought in a few minutes before the stoppage time to provide more defensive support for carrying the one goal lead. Sahil did well and gave good defensive support but could not help his team in maintaining the lead.
Dinliana: 6.5
Dinliana came on in the second half before extra time, but he wasn't particularly spectacular because he had little impact on the team. He contributed to the positive movements created by the Islanders.
Mumbai City FC (By Yash Pratap Singh)
Mohammad Nawaz - 5.5
It was a day to forget for the keeper as he made a horrific mistake in the first half that led to Odisha FC’s opening goal. He then also gave away a penalty in the second half which was converted by Odisha FC..
Rahul Bheke - 7.0
The skipper was very good with his ball distribution. He made overlapping runs and contributed actively in attack. At the back, he made a few important clearances and blocks and had a decent outing at the back.
Tiri - 7.0
Tiri almost scored a goal for his side in the second half, but missed the target by the finest of margins. He formed a solid partnership with Griffiths at the back. Moreover, he also maintained a very good passing accuracy.
Rostyn Griffiths - 8.0
He was solid at the back with his perfectly timed challenges and clearances. He kept a check on Odisha FC’s forwards and also scored the first goal for his side and helped Mumbai comeback into the game.
Akash Mishra - 7.0
Mishra put up a good performance at the left-back position. He won the majority of his aerial and ground duels. Mishara made a lot of overlapping runs upfront and also had an attempt on goal.
Vinit Rai - 6.5
Vinit put up a decent show in the middle of the park. He was good with his ball distribution, but failed to win the ball in the middle. He also had an attempt on goal.
Lalengmawia - 7.0
Apuia held the midfield and backline together and was very good in the middle of the park. He won the ball quite a few times and executed his passes to perfection with ease. All in all, a promising display.
Greg Stewart - 8.0
As always, Greg was Mumbai City FC’s best player on the pitch. He created chances, tested the keeper himself and troubled Odisha FC throughout the game. Stewart had two attempts on goal and also provided an assist.
Lallianzuala Chhangte - 7.0
Chhangte put up yet another brilliant performance on the wings. The winger completed the majority of his passes. He had a shot on target which was saved by the keeper.
Jorge Pereyra Diaz - 7.0
Diaz had a quiet evening for the majority of the game until he chose to come to his side’s rescue. The Argentine striker scored past the keeper and brought his side back on level terms late in the game.
Bipin Singh - 6.5
Bipin had a quiet game against the Juggernauts. He couldn’t contribute much tonight. He made a successful dribble in the first half and had a decent outing.
Substitutes
Vikram Pratap Singh - 7.0
Vikram came on in the second half. He completed all his passes and worked his socks off on the right flank. All in all, a promising performance by the young lad.
Naser El Khayati - 6.0
El Khayati came on late in the game and replaced Greg Stewart. He had a big chance late in the game, but couldn’t pull the trigger, but kept on trying until the full-time whistle.
Jayesh Rane - 6.5
Jayesh Rane came on for Vinit in the second half to make his debut for the Islanders. He put in a decent performance as he won the majority of his ground duels.
Yoëll van Nieff - NA
He came on very late in the game and couldn’t make much of an impact.
