Des Buckingham also gave an update on Mehtab Singh’s injury.
It was an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar as Odisha FC hosted Mumbai City FC in ISL 2023-24. It was a game full of drama, goals and rivalry. The Juggernauts opened the scoring in the first half.
Mumbai CIty FC equalised early in the second half before Roy Krishna gave Odisha another lead. The game looked all set to be going into Odisha FC’s favour, until Jorge Pereyra Diaz pulled a point back for his side in the 88th minute.
After the match, Mumbai City FC boss Des Buckingham addressed the media and here’s what he had to say.
Thoughts on the game
The head coach shared his thoughts on the game and said that it was an entertaining clash between two sides who play a similar brand of football.
“I thought it was a good game. When you get two teams who try and play in a similar manner. From the sidelines it was a good game. We have four points from two games away from home, which is a good start for us. I am happy overall, but disappointed with the way we conceded the goals. But, very happy with the way the players responded to the setbacks,” he asserted.
Takeaways from the game
Speaking about the takeaways from today’s game, Des Buckingham said that the players executed his plans very well despite the changes.
“We had to rotate the squad. We lost Mehtab (Singh) because he got injured in the head and we didn’t want to risk him. He will be fine for the next game. What I liked the most was that the players understood how we want to play despite three changes.”
He further added that there are a lot of positives to take away from this game.
“Even the guys that came on. El Khayati got more games and I am very happy with Vikram (Singh). He made an impact. And of course, Diaz’s goal. We had a lot of positive takeaways from it and I don’t want to get caught in the mistakes,” he said.
