Assessing three potential star performers in the Premier League this season

With the new Premier League season firmly underway, fans of their respective clubs are hoping any new additions will hit the ground running and any underperforming players from last season will finally find form. In such a competitive competition, many players struggle to establish themselves and provide consistent performances that both the fans and their respective managers can get really excited about.

Given the abundance of talent that is playing in the league, some standout players will be hoping to deliver relative success to their respective clubs this campaign. Already, we’ve seen some impressive performances from players on a mission.

Some professionals faced criticism last season, while others have to cope with the undoubted pressure after being signed for a big fee and having to adapt to a completely new environment. It’s a ruthless business.

While the likes of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have managed to put on a number of star performances in the division and will probably do the same again this season, there are some rising stars who will be hoping to emulate both the Norwegian and the Egyptian.

Both players are likely to dominate the discussion at various points throughout the season; they’ll be captained in fantasy football and backed in the online betting stakes, while their teammates and supporters alike will be heavily reliant on them ahead of what promises to be a memorable season. They aren’t the only players capable of standing out, though. Below is a look at three talents that could cement themselves as stars of the Premier League this season.

Alexander Isak is capable of firing Newcastle to glory

After joining Newcastle for a club-record €70 million, big things were expected of Alexander Isak. Following a number of impressive performances in Spain that led him to score 44 goals in 132 matches, the Swedish striker has transferred his evident hunger for goals over to the English game.

The season before he arrived at Newcastle, the side had scored just 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches, highlighting the evident need for another striker to support the likes of Callum Wilson. Isak appears to be the man to provide the goals, with several impressive performances already in the black and white shirt of the Toon Army.

With the club having to contend with European football and hopes of securing a finish at the higher end of the Premier League table, a lot of pressure is on Alexander Isak this season. Given the confidence he exudes and the performances he is managing to put on already, he could be a key cog in Newcastle’s wheel this season and one of the star performers in the Premier League.

Darwin Nunez could finally arrive

Darwin Nunez Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

Although Liverpool’s issues from last season haven’t suddenly vanished after one summer transfer window, the club does appear to be a better place. After seeking advice from respected football managers like Marcelo Bielsa, Darwin Nunez is a man on a mission this season.

Despite the competition being strong in attacking areas at the club, the former Benfica goal-getter could cement himself as a regular starter alongside the likes of Mohamed Salah. As seen in the 2-1 win against Newcastle earlier in the season, his ability to get in the right areas and finish strongly is something Liverpool will desperately require. It’s a quality Jurgen Klopp’s side arguably lack, with a natural finisher like Nunez being required for any successful side. Nunez still has a lot to do, but this is the season that could see him explode into the formidable goal-machine Liverpool so desperately need him to be.

James Maddison could lead the revival at Spurs under Postecoglou

Despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, there is a good feeling around Tottenham at the moment. While much of the credit should go to Ange Postecoglou, a number of players will be aiming to fill the void left by Kane and help kick Tottenham on under the Australian manager.

One player who could become an important figure in this new-look Spurs side is former Leicester City man James Maddison, a player occupying a more attacking area of the pitch, with pretty much everything going through him when Tottenham start to get going.

Maddison’s ability has been evident for a while now, although injuries have halted his progress at times. Now, at an undoubtedly bigger club in Tottenham compared to Leicester, the England international could find another gear and drag Postecoglou’s troops through the tricky spells that have hindered their season in the past. Maddison is the creative spark Tottenham have required for a good while now, making him a player to watch this season. Should he remain injury-free, then James Maddison could become a shining light in a Spurs side that appears to be on the right track under their new boss.
