A week after the summer transfer window and now all eyes will be on the International football stage

The 2022-23 football season is behind us and for the 2023-24 season clubs have done a lot of transfers in and out to have a shot at doing good this season. However with the transfer deadline day behind us. We now have the first international break of the 2023-24 season this September. This includes highly contested games between quality teams all over.

Top 10 games in the September international break

10. Slovakia vs Portugal

On September 9 matchday 5 of the Euro 2024 Qualifying competition brings us the game between 2016 Euro winners Portugal and Slovakia. It is from Group J. And interestingly Slovakia is only trailing behind Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal team for the group leader spot. Slovakia has won 3 games out of 4, while Portugal is yet to concede in the 4 games that they have played and won in Group J.

9. Ukraine vs England

Now turning our eyes to Group C of the Euro 2024 Qualifying competition. It is a contest between the group leaders England and currently at second Ukraine. The Three Lions will be looking to continue their amazing run of four wins in four games in their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign against Ukraine on September 9. In the reverse fixture, England won the battle by a 2-0 margin when Ukraine visited the Wembley Stadium.

8. Wales vs South Korea

It is the September 8 fiesta between two countries that are yet to meet on a football pitch. We are talking about Wales and South Korea. Wales could give players like Swansea City attacker Liam Cullen, Queen Park Rangers defender Morgan Fox, and the 28-year-old man in between the sticks from Premier League side Wolves, Tom King their first cap for the national side. For South Korea, Bayern Munich's Kim Min-Jae and his teammates on the national team will be looking to perform well as manager Jurgen Klinsmann has yet to win a game.

7. Italy vs Ukraine

September 13 will see Ukraine hit the road to square up against the mighty Italy side. This match will see both sides collide for the first time in their group. It is a Group C encounter between these two sides vying for the qualification for the Euro 2024 to be held in Germany afterwards in between June to July 2024. Italy are the defending champions as they won the Euro 2020 edition.

6. Uruguay vs Chile

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be hosted in North America this time around. With defending champions Argentina within the mix of the CONMEBOL qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, we will see Uruguay open their game against Chile. Both teams' form has been good without a defeat in their respective last five games. The home side Uruguay will be looking to gain all three points with their home advantage.

5. Argentina vs Ecuador

Talking about the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Now the defending 2022 FIFA World Cup champions will see them take on Ecuador. This will be the first official action for the Argentine group after lifting the 2022 World Cup trophy at Lusail Stadium, Qatar. And with Lionel Messi still up and running, we know they are still one of the favourites going into it all over again. However, Ecaudaor gem Moisés Caicedo will be looking to make his presence felt throughout the game.

4. Germany vs Japan

One of the biggest games of the September international break if not the best. There is so much rivalry associated with these two countries and thus makes for an awesome encounter on the pitch. Last time around when Germany and Japan faced each other, it was the Japanese who prevailed. By a 2-1 scoreline Japan defeated the German international football team in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And given that was a close call, we again expect a thrilling game for the full 90 minutes.

3. South Korea vs Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has caught worldwide attention with their investment in the Saudi Pro League. The PIF-invested clubs particularly have blown away the traditional routine or approach for the summer transfer window. Heavy salaries and transfer fees have brought in world-class players. Now the sight will be on them once again as the Saudi Arabia international team travels to face South Korea on September 12. Saudi Arabia knows how to keep the South Korean side at bay, given their last two outings were a goalless draw between the two teams.

2. Scotland vs England

It will be a truly magnificent game between Scotland and England. The friendly game will celebrate the oldest football rivalry at the international level of football. Actually, it will mark their 150th anniversary of going head-to-head against each other. The game will be played at Hampden Park, Scotland's national stadium. On 12 September Gareth Southgate’s side will visit Scotland in a game that will celebrate the oldest international football rivalry in the world. The first meeting between the two sides happened in 1872.

1. Germany vs France

The Signal Iduna Park in Germany will see two international football giants collide. One of them is the home side of Germany while France will be visiting their base. The biggest September game is still friendly but will display world-class players from defence to attack on both ends. The German side hasn't fully recovered from their poor 2022 FIFA World Cup run while the Les Blues side have won all of their last four Euro qualifying games for the 2024 edition.
