Bayern travel to Supercup winner Leipzig; Dortmund faces tough test away at Hoffenheim in Bundesliga 2023-24 Matchday 6

Bayern Munich regained the lead in the last Bundesliga matchday

For Bundesliga fans far and wide, it’s on to Matchday 6, and top of the pile this week is surely RB Leipzig against FC Bayern München. The mouth-watering fixture is a repeat of August's Supercup which Die Roten Bullen lifted at their rivals’ expense.

Bayern will be hungry for revenge for that 3-0 loss at the Allianz Arena and they go into Saturday's encounter at the Red Bull Arena as the Bundesliga leaders on goal difference. Since losing in that aforementioned season curtain raiser, Thomas Tuchel's men have enjoyed a six-game unbeaten run, winning five, in all competitions.

What’s more, Bayern's new signing, Harry Kane, has been on fire. England's all-time record goalscorer scored a hat-trick in the 7-0 win against VfL Bochum 1848 last weekend, and his top-flight tally now stands at seven goals. When adding in Kane's three assists, the 30-year-old's total goal involvements in the Bundesliga so far the season stands at an impressive 10 from five games.

Marco Rose's Leipzig will be fully aware of the threat posed by Kane and Co. this weekend, but Saturday's hosts - winners of their last five games in all competitions - will not be overawed by their lofty opponents, particularly having beaten them 3-0 just six weeks ago. Leipzig have been purring this term, with new signings Xavi Simons and Loïs Openda hitting the ground running after their respective summer arrivals. All in all, this battle of two in-form, top-four teams will be one not to be missed.

The very same can be said for Friday night's opening game between TSG Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund. Having staved off relegation last season, Hoffenheim have hit a rich vein of form this term under coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. The New Jersey, USA, native took up the reins in Sinsheim last February and has masterminded a route into the Bundesliga's top five with a start to the current campaign that has yielded four wins in five matches.

Despite that super start, however, the team’s veteran striker Andrej Kramarić, who scored a penalty in a 2-0 win away at UEFA Champions League challengers Union Berlin on Matchday 5, urged caution ahead of the visit of BVB. "It's a very good start to the season, but a season has 34 matches, not five," the Croatian warned. "Everyone knows that we also started well last season but then had problems; nobody wants to experience that again."

While Hoffenheim were beating Union, Dortmund picked up their second consecutive Bundesliga win with a slender 1-0 triumph at home to VfL Wolfsburg. BVB coach Edin Terzic hailed the victory as, "A clear step in the right direction," while match-winner Marco Reus - who netted his 116th Bundesliga goal for Borussia - said his side "Produced a mature performance." DieSchwarzgelbenwill need wise heads if they are to get the better of high-flying Hoffenheim this weekend.

And speaking of high flying, what about VfB Stuttgart's Serhou Guirassy and his goalscoring exploits this season? The Guinea international has found the net an incredible 10 times in the opening five Bundesliga games and unsurprisingly leads the division's top scorer charts at a rate only previously seen from Robert Lewandowski. Guirassy's latest feat was registering a double in the Swabians' latest win - their fourth of the campaign - against SV Darmstadt 98. Stuttgart are now up to third thanks in no small part to their top scorer's exploits. There will be plenty of eyes on Guirassy and Stuttgart when they visit lowly 1. FC Köln this Saturday.

Along with Kane and Guirassy, Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Victor Boniface has also been taking the Bundesliga by storm. The Nigerian scoring machine produced one more double in Leverkusen's 4-1 triumph against 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 last time out, a result that took Xabi Alonso's still unbeaten side level on points with Bayern at the top of the table.

Boniface said that he didn't expect to have scored six goals in his opening five league matches since moving to the Bundesliga from Union Saint-Gilloise. Now that the 22-year-old finds himself rubbing shoulders among the top-flight's top marksmen, however, the striker will want to continue his run when Leverkusen visit bottom side 1. FSV Mainz 05.

Elsewhere, Bochum and Borussia Mönchengladbach meet at the Ruhrstadion with both sides seeking a first win of the campaign. Heidenheim hosts Union and Wolfsburg welcomes still-unbeaten Eintracht Frankfurt to the Volkswagen Arena. Darmstadt are targeting their first three points since returning to the top flight when they host SV Werder Bremen. The weekend’s action concludes with SC Freiburg at home to FC Augsburg.
