Top five favourites to win Serie A 2023-24 based on odds
Napoli have almost a 16% chance of winning the Scudetto again
The 2022-23 Italian top-tier football season, the 121st overall and the 91st in a round-robin format, saw Napoli clinch their third-ever Serie A title. This was followed by a 1-1 draw against Udinese. Napoli comfortably finished 16 points ahead of Lazio.
But the defending champions last season, AC Milan finished 20 points behind the champions. It was all chaos up at the top. Still a lively one!
Now, after four matchdays in the new season, the league table has seen significant changes. By the looks of it, Lazio's abysmal performances so far have put them out of contention for a title run this season. Hence, prompting a reevaluation of the favourites for the Serie A 2023-24 title.
Favourites to win Serie A 2023-24
5. Atalanta - 33/1
No one could have predicted Atalanta to keep their form up from a strong fifth-place finish last season. But, they are 5th in the eyes of the bookmakers for winning the Serie A. Although, it is highly unlikely that all the teams around them will improve severely, at this level one never gets to know.
While the odds of 33/1 suggest the unlikeliness of Atalanta lifting the Scudetto, it also tells that Serie A is getting more competitive. La Dea were nowhere near the top half a few years back. Now, look at them. However, the success for them will be a UCL qualification this time around. Suggesting that they have strengthened on that fifth place in the Serie A standings from last season.
4. Napoli - 5/1
Last year's champions, Napoli, have a 16.6% chance of defending their title. Last season, they dominated Serie A, winning their third title, the first since 1989/1990. However, they were disappointed by their Champions League exit in the quarter-finals against AC Milan. When many thought they could go further.
This time around, they look solid as well. Napoli has strengthened their squad in the off-season. They kept Victor Osimhen, who was linked to Manchester United. While also adding Raspadori and Simeone to their already exciting forward line. Losing Kim Min-jae in defence could be challenging, but they are linked to Mavropanos, who would be a perfect fit for this team.
It could be two-in-two if all the luck goes in their favour. After all, luck favours the brave!
3. AC Milan - 5/1
With odds of 5/1 for winning the Serie A title in 2023-24, AC Milan are one of the sides bookmakers have termed as the Dark Horses. In 2021, they won their 19th title. However, last season, their title defence didn't go well. They finished in fourth place with 70 points- 20 points adrift of champions Napoli.
However, their journey to the Champions League semi-finals suggests that they still have a strong core team. With players like Maignan, Hernandez, and Leão, they can challenge for the title this time around.
Plus, they've lost Zlatan Ibrahimović and midfielder Tonali and added Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic. With Captain America firing all guns blazing, it is going to the wire for I Rossoneri.
2. Juventus- 9/2
Despite all the recent drama and 'fraud' allegations, no one can deny the fact that Juventus pose a great threat of lifting the Scudetto. Dominating the Serie A for almost a decade, from 2011-12 to 2019-20, the Old Lady had to go through a rough patch. But, this season they look stronger than ever. So, if a title push is in conversation for the Turin-based club, then it must come this season.
Last season they were hampered by a ten-point points deduction (originally 15) in the league for Capital Gains violations. This led to Juventus' seventh-place finish- 28 points behind league winners.
Still, the squad difference and the dressing room chemistry seem way off compared to the Naples side. Although, they pose a 9/2 odds of winning the title this season AC Milan may be better poised to lift it.
1. Inter Milan- 6/4
Inter Milan are the favourite to win the 2023-24 Serie A season with odds of 6/4. That equates to 40% of the total. It is no surprise given they had a great 2022-23 season. Finishing third last season and reaching the Champions League final. They lost by just a single goal margin to Manchester City.
Despite all the speculations surrounding their star players like Bastoni, Barella, and Martinez, saying they might leave for other top European clubs. Inter have managed to keep their core team intact. They've also made some promising additions with Marcus Thuram, Kristjan Asllani, and Yann Aurel Bisseck.
Inter Milan are currently on a perfect run of form, having won four out of four so far this season. If this form goes on into the latter half of the season, bookmakers betting on Inter could be well in for a treat.
