Lionel Messi encourages Luka Modric to join Inter Miami

Luka Modric only has one year left on his contract

Famous Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric is allegedly interested in joining Lionel Messi at the MLS team. Messi is the standout forward for Inter Miami.

Messi, 36, left Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after two seasons to join the South Florida club on a free transfer this summer. He has made a strong start, scoring 11 goals and dishing out five assists in as many games (12 total) across three distinct leagues.

In the meantime, Modric, who signed Los Blancos in 2012, is in the last season of his contract. The 2018 Ballon d'Or champion has played in approximately 500 games throughout all competitions, recording 35 goals and 77 assists.

The 38-year-old has started three times and made seven starts so far this year, but he hasn't scored a goal and has fallen down the pecking order. He is expected to leave in the summer of 2019 because Madrid is unlikely to give him an additional year.

Predrag Mijatovic, an earlier Yugoslavia international, suggested to le SER (via MD) that Modric might join Messi at Inter Miami the next year. The Argentinean stated that he is "personally" keen on seeing Modric join his present team.

In excess of another club, Lionel Messi has faced Real Madrid in matches (47) contested. Those appearances, with the exception of two, all occurred when he was at Barcelona.

In four separate contests, the Inter Miami forward has 26 goals and 14 assists against Los Blancos. In 29 La Liga games, six Supercopa contests, and four UEFA Champions League games, Messi has scored 18 goals.

Surprisingly, despite playing eight times in the Copa del Rey against the present La Liga leaders without scoring, the Argentine did contribute two assists.
