Jurgen Klopp names Liverpool squad for Europa League opener

Virgil van Dijk will lead the Reds

Liverpool begin their UEFA Europa League 2023-24 with a trip to Austria. Jurgen Klopp's men will play against LASK in their opening encounter.

The Reds will play for the first time in this competition since their 2015-16 final loss. Liverpool have qualified for the UEFA Champions League in recent years but struggled to do so last season.

Klopp's side failed to keep the momentum and finished fifth in the league table. However, a few new signings have boosted the squad and the Merseyside team has made a decent start to the 2023-24 campaign.

Liverpool are still unbeaten in the league with four wins and a draw. The Reds have scored 12 times and conceded four goals. They earned a 3-1 win over Wolves in their last game.

Klopp has named a strong side for this clash. His captain Virgil van Dijk returns to action after missing the league games due to suspension.

There are quite a few youngsters and newcomers in the team. Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister will look to make their European debut for the Reds.

Dominik Szoboszlai was named as Liverpool's Player of the Month for August. He has scored one spectacular goal for his new club and will make a return to Austria. The midfielder has played for Austrian club RB Salzburg.

Jurgen Klopp's men are in Group E along with LASK, Union Saint-Gilloise and Toulouse.
