The World Cup winner played for two Turkish clubs

Mesut Ozil, a former player for Real Madrid and Arsenal, is expected to take over as the next managing director of the Turkish national side.

According to reports, the Turkish Football Association is getting ready to fire executive director Hamit Altintop and the manager Stefan Kuntz.

Kuntz has not been fired, but the company has acknowledged in an announcement that he is going to an appointment on Wednesday.

At the base where the national team trains, Kuntz will have a meeting with TFF President Mehmet Buyukeksi.

Despite being assured of a playoff spot and now sitting second in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, Turkey lost a friendly match against Japan 4-2 during the break.

Additionally, prominent midfielder Hakan Calhanoglou and Kuntz are said to have had a falling out.

The Turkish legend was crucial in Kuntz's hiring, which puts Altintop's position as general manager in jeopardy, according to the German daily Bild.

Joachim Low, the former manager of Germany, is seen to be a potential candidate to succeed Kuntz, with Ozil apparently in line to take the place of Altintop.

Over the course of his time playing for Germany at the international level, under Low, between 2009 and 2018, Mesut Ozil scored 23 goals in 92 games.

The midfielder has been a vital component of Low's 2014 World Cup-winning squad.

After the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Mesut Ozil declared his retirement from international football due to "racism and disrespect."

The German public was outraged when the midfielder and teammate Ilkay Gundogan, who are both of Turkish heritage, were seen with Erdogan before the 2018 World Cup.

Then, in Russia, Germany lost in the opening round, and Ozil was made the fall guy for the dreadful underperformance of the defending champions.

Mesut Ozil received harsh condemnation for his photo with Erdogan, whom his fiercest detractors have dubbed a modern-day ruler, and his three-day trip to London in 2018 was met with demonstrations by an array of human rights organisations.
