Morocco, Portugal & Spain football presidents met to discuss plans for 2030 World Cup bid

Morocco joined the bid in March for the 2030 World Cup

The Presidents of the Spain, Morrocco and Portugal football associations met in Las Rojas, Spain to discuss launching a joint bid for the hosting rights of the 2030 World Cup.

Spain and Portugal were always hand in hand to launch a bid together. Morocco joined the bid in March. If they succeed in acquiring the hosting rights, the 2030 World Cup will become the first one to be held across two continents. With Spain and Portugal in Europe, and Morrocco in Africa.

Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Pedro Rocha, the president of the Spanish Football Federation's board of directors, and Fernando Gomes, the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, were all present at the meeting.

The FRMF said the three federations expressed satisfaction with the bid, emphasizing their readiness to enter the race.

“We are moving forward together with the aim of presenting a very strong World Cup project that is stronger than ever with the inclusion of Morocco in our working teams,” FRMF quoted Rosha as saying.

Lekjaa shared similar sentiments, stressing that the three bidding countries are aware of the “great responsibility on our shoulders because we are facing a historic opportunity.”

“We will contribute our best efforts to a great team of professionals working very hard to achieve the goal. It is an honor for us to be part of such a strong and important candidacy,” Lekjaa added.

Gomes also commented on the meeting, stressing that the bid is very “solid.”

“We are working in a coordinated manner with professionals to achieve the best result,” he added.

Morocco announced its decision to enter the Iberian bid for the FIFA World Cup in March.

“This joint bid, which is unprecedented in football history, will bring together Africa and Europe, the northern and southern Mediterranean, and the African, Arab and Euro-Mediterranean worlds,” King Mohammed VI said, noting that this bid “will also bring out the best in all of us - in effect, a combination of genius, creativity, experience, and means.”
