Premier League clubs dominate this list

The richest clubs in the world have a number of advantages over their less wealthy rivals. First, they can afford to sign the best players in the world. This gives them a significant advantage on the pitch. Second, they can invest heavily in their youth academies, which gives them a pipeline of future talent. Third, they can build stadiums and training facilities, which gives their players the best possible environment to train and develop.

Premier League has spent more amount of money on signings than any other league in world football, eight Premier League clubs feature in the top-10 of big spenders. This summer transfer window was somewhat alike all the summer transfers wherein a huge amount has been spent by the clubs to acquire players to strengthen their squads and give them a chance to win trophies.

Here are the top 10 most expensive football squads based on transfer fees:

10. West Ham- £435.5M

West Ham have the eighth biggest net spend in the Premier League over the last five years more than Liverpool’s over the same period. It is because of the spendings made by David Moyes that the Hammers have been able to make it to the Europa League this season. Mohammed Kudus is the latest addition to the West Ham squad, he is now the third most expensive player to play for the club behind only Haller and Lucas Paqueta.

9. Newcastle United- £570M

Newcastle United are finally getting back to where Alan Shearer, the club legend has always dreamt of. Recently since the takeover by the Saudis, they have invested heavily in bringing up players from across Europe to give them the slight edge, they have qualified for the Champions League this season and if they continue to perform well, who knows which player could end up wearing that Black and White jersey.

8. Real Madrid- £610.5M

The only La Liga club that has made it to this list, the club with most Champions League titles has always been known for bringing up world-class players be it Kaka, Ozil, Benzema and many more. This summer window, they actually added another young midfielder, Jude Bellingham, the young England international has adapted to the league so well and been performing every game for the club. He has by far been the standout performer and signing of this season.

7. Liverpool- £664M

Liverpool have been quite active in the transfers since Jurgen Klopp's arrival. They have spent very reasonably yet managing to pull off some of the best in the business right now. Mac Allister and Szoboszlai's addition this season has strengthened their midfield which was looking incomplete after the departure of Henderson and Fabinho.

6. Tottenham- £714.9M

Tottenham is the fifth-biggest spenders from the Premier League. They signed a number of high-profile players, including Richarlison from Everton, Djed Spence from Nottingham Forest, and Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest. However, despite their spending, Tottenham have struggled to challenge for major trophies in recent years.

Arsenal spent money in a summer which is by far their highest-spending ever. They acquired their long time target Declan Rice on a club-record transfer fee, Kai Havertz from their arch rivals Chelsea and Timber from Ajax this summer. This was possible after 2022-23 season, which was one of the best after Arsene Wenger left, Arteta has got all the pieces to this squad and will finally look to win some major trophies, if not this season then maybe in the season to come.

4. PSG- £862.3M

PSG are one of the biggest spenders in world football, but they have yet to win the UEFA Champions League, the biggest prize in European club football. PSG's biggest transfer was the signing of Neymar from Barcelona for a world-record fee of €222 million in 2017. Manchester City round out the top three on assembling their squad, with just under a quarter of the sum invested on four summer signings this year - Josko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku and Mateo Kovacic. City has the best return on investment out of all the clubs in the list, they have won every possible trophy since Pep's arrival. Their treble run last year was one of the best performances by a Premier League club in European football.

2. Chelsea- £977.9M

Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over from Roman Abramovich 18 months ago, Chelsea have spent the most amount of money on bringing players to Stamford Bridge. Last month, the blues signed Caicedo from Brighton  on a deal worth a British record £115m, breaking their previous record set for bringing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica. Despite their signings, Chelsea have yet to make an impact under Pochettino and the new owners.

1. Manchester United- £991.7M

Manchester United's current squad is the most expensive ever assembled ahead of Chelsea and Manchester City. Under £400m has been spent on transfer fees since Erik ten Hag took over in May of last year. The Dutch manager has done everything possible to get the players he has desired, he signed Antony, Onana, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez. The signings have made an impact but not yet in this year's Premier League, the club sits at 11th position in the points table so far.
