Real Madrid add Roberto De Zerbi to managerial shortlist

De Zerbi led Brighton to the Europa League last season

As a result of Roberto De Zerbi's rapid rise at Brighton & Hove Albion, Real Madrid reportedly have put him on their shortlist of potential Carlo Ancelotti replacements.

De Zerbi reportedly appears on Los Blancos' short list of potential managers to succeed Ancelotti, as reported by Cadena SER (via Transfer News Live). The Brazilian national team believes the Italian coach will take over the Selecao when his contract with them expires at the conclusion of the current campaign.

Real Madrid are now looking into hiring coaches to lead the La Liga giants into a new era as a result. Xabi Alonso, the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, spent five seasons as a player at the Santiago Bernabeu and has since established himself as the front-runner to succeed Ancelotti.

De Zerbi is the most recent name to be included in the discussion as he keeps excelling at Brighton. In September 2022, the Italian strategist took Graham Potter's place at the Amex.

De Zerbi plays in a way that is appropriate for a Real Madrid player. The Seagulls, who are now in third place, have perhaps one of the most appealing styles of play in the Premier League. Five of the team's six league games have ended in victories, notably spectacular 3-1 victories over Manchester United and Newcastle United.

The Brighton manager pushes out from the back row and adheres to a possession-based mentality. As of September 18, according to Squawka, his team had the most shots of any club in the top five leagues in Europe (244), 26 higher than Madrid, who was in second place.

Albion made it into European football for the inaugural time in their entire existence this past season after qualifying for the UEFA Europa League. Given that De Zerbi's reputation is still rising and that his deal at the Amex has three years remaining, Real Madrid could need to act swiftly.

When playing Shakhtar Donetsk against Los Merengues in the UEFA Champions League in 2021–2022, De Zerbi praised Vinicius Junior. He described the Brazilian attacker as a role model for younger players, according to the authorised Real Madrid website.
