Indian women's football team's goalkeeper, Shreya Hooda, sustained a severe injury during the Paris 2024 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament Round 2 match against Uzbekistan at the Bunyodkor Stadium, Tashkent.
In the 64th minute of the match, Ablyakimova Ilvina of Uzbekistan attempted a shot on goal. Shreya made a valiant effort to prevent the ball from reaching the net, but unfortunately, it slipped from her grasp and struck the goal post, rebounding towards the opposite end of the post.
At the same time, Asadova Dilrabo made a thrilling move to touch the ball, but Shreya skillfully intervened, saving the goal. Regrettably, Asadova accidentally collided with Shreya's forehead, causing a brief pause in the game.
Instantly, the medical team promptly administered first aid to Shreya and applied a bandage to her forehead. Additionally, the resilient young woman valiantly continued to defend the Indian side on the field until she was replaced by Sowmiya Narayanasamy in the 76th minute.
According to the latest update, what looked like a minor injury at the beginning turned into a severe one. Shreya Hooda has also been taken to the hospital and will require stitches on her forehead to recover from the injury.
Although India suffered a 3-0 defeat against Uzbekistan, Shreya emerged as the standout player for the Indian team. She showcased exceptional skills and made some remarkable saves during the first half of the match, which appeared to be heading towards a goal.
Finally, India ends their Paris 2024 AFC Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament Round 2 campaign without a win in any of the games. They first lost to Japan and then to Vietnam and now to Uzbekistan.
The Blue Tigresses managed to net just a solitary goal in their three matches, with Sandhiya Ranganathan being the sole scorer during the encounter against Vietnam.
