Ratings: Sahal rules as Mohun Bagan demolish Chennaiyin FC
(Courtesy : ISL media)
Petratos, Cummings & Manvir Singh scored for Mohun Bagan
Mohun Bagan Super Giant make it three wins in three games at the Indian Super League (ISL) with a perfect performance against Chennaiyin FC. The Mariners were dominant throughout the 90 minutes, and put up arguably the best team performance throughout the season so far.
Having taken the lead midway through the first half, Mohun Bagan were creating a flurry of chances, and their efforts paid off late into the first 45, as Cummings doubled the mariners lead.
Chennaiyin came up with a strong response in the second half, but were shaken just seconds after their opening goal, as Manvir struck a beauty into the roof of the net.
While Petratos, Cummings & Manvir Singh scored for the century old club, Sahal Abdul Samad shined above everyone else in the clash. He showed magical skills along with his assisting abilities.
With nine points from their first three games, the stars seem to be aligning perfectly well for the Mariners, as they consolidate their position on the top of the table. Whereas for the SuperMachans, start to the season has been pretty rough, and they sit bottom with no points on the board.
Here are the ratings from the game
Chennaiyin FC (By: Analoy Majumder)
Samik Mitra: 6.5
Samik put forth a lot of effort and did relatively well, coming to a couple of stops and demonstrating the knowledge to clear the ball. Samik today, put up a pair of decent collections but surely could have done better from the goals that he conceded.
Lazar Cirkovic: 6.5
Lazar Cirkovic made some important blockings in front of goal and denied the NEUFC strikers from finding the back of the net. Cirkovic produced a few solid interceptions in the defensive line and committed timely tackles but was taken off at half time.
Ryan Edwards: 7.0
Ryan Edwards made his debut as Marina Machans’s new captain and did quite well in the backline and made some important blockings in front of goal but couldn't really get success in stopping the lethal attacks constructed by the Mariners.
Aakash Sangwan: 6.5
Aakash performed admirably in the backline alongside Cirkovic and Bikash today, displaying great faith in the defensive line with effective tackles and significant interceptions.
Bikash Yumnam: 6.5
Although he received little attention, Bikash Yumnam made a couple solid runs with the ball and assisted the defence in keeping the attackers from having much success in the final third.
Cristian Damian Battocchio: 7.0
In Chennaiyin's midfield, Battocchio did well to annoy Mohun Bagan SG by stopping them from creating moves in the middle half. He put a lot of pressure on the players, finishing with five tackles and a few interceptions.
Ninthoinganba Meetei: 6.5
Ninthoi made a stronger opening than in the previous game and appeared assured in possession of the ball. Meetei performed well in the center, making an effort to create a strong combination between the midfielders and forwards but was taken off at half time.
Ayush Adhikari: 6.5
Despite a few exciting runs and good passes, Ayush performed sloppily in the latter part of the game once again. Ayush found it difficult to have an influence in the final third and score any goals for the Marina Machans.
Farukh Choudhary: 6.5
Farukh Choudhary did well offensively but was not up to the mark. Did quite well in the middle and also helped his team with positive defensive support but later was taken off just before the last quarter.
Rahim Ali: 6.5
Rahim came back in the squad after coming back from national duty and delivered good command both defensively and offensively. Stil Rahim was not at his best today as he failed to bring any needed impact for his team.
Connor Shields: 7.0
Connor Shields seemed dangerous at start but faded as the contest progressed. He didn't generate many chances since he had very little room offered by the MBSG defenders in the attacking third. Despite his tenacity and efforts, he fell short of supporters' expectations since he is still unable to perform at his peak on the field.
Substitutions
Rafael Crivellaro: 7.5
Crivellaro from the time he came kept the MBSG defenders busy, came aggressively close to goal and pulled on back for Chennaiyin. Whenever Rafael had the ball he tried to capitalise it and create goal scoring opportunities for Chennaiyin FC.
Ankit Mukherjee: 6.5
Because Ankit Mukherjee is a defensively-minded player with the ability to move in on overlaps from the flanks and deliver positive crosses, Cirkovic was replaced by him in the second half. Ankit would have shown more deservedness if Owen Coyle had introduced him earlier.
Jiteshwor: 6.5
Jiteshwor was called in by Owen Coyle to help them find their crucial objective. Jiteshwor contributed to Chennaiyin's defence in addition to offensive situations by repeatedly outdueling MBSG attackers after entering the field.
Vincy Barreto: 6.5
Barreto paired well in the final attacking third alongside Conor Shields and Jiteshwor but ultimately failed to bring in any needed goals for his team.
Alexander Romario Jesuraj: 6.5
Romario came in place of Battocchio in the last quarter. Gave both attacking and defensive support to Chennaiyin FC playing alongside Crivellaro but failed to bring the needed impact.
Mohun Bagan Super Giants (By Keshava Verma)
Vishal Kaith - 7
Could do little about Crivellaro’s free kick shot, but was decent with his distribution and awareness.
Anwar Ali - 7.5
Anwar was fantastic in managing the backline, and played a great role in launching those accurate long balls. Ali was also clinical with some of the forward runs he made.
Brendan Hamill - 7
Brendan made three interceptions as well as three tackles, and was a solid figure in the back for Mohun Bagan. He also cleared a lot of aerial balls.
Subhashish Bose - 7.5
Subhahish did well to soak in the pressure created by Chennaiyin in the second half, and made a few vital blocks and interceptions. The Indian international also won a total of eight interceptions.
Manvir Singh - 8
Regained Mohun Bagan’s two goal lead with an absolute belter of a strike, and was amongst the most lively players on the field.
Anirudh Thapa - 7.5
Wasn’t very effective in handling his defensive duties, but was a great attacking threat in the midfield with his crisp passing and great understanding with Sahal.
Sahal Abdul Samad - 9.5
The Indian international had one of the best individual performances of the season so far, and was an absolute joy to watch. Sahal had two assists to his name, and was the orchestrator of the second goal as well.
Liston Colaco - 7.5
Liston was highly industrious on both ends of the pitch, and put in a real shift for his side. The winger also had a creative arc tonight, but struggled with his shooting at times.
Hugo Boumous - 7.5
Boumous was in the thick of things for the Mariners, and his attacking contributions were impeccable. Made a couple of big chances, and also played two key passes.
Jason Cummings - 8
Cummings had a fantastic night, as he got on the scoresheet with an adorable chip. The Aussie was fierce throughout the game, and also made four key passes.
Dimitri Petratos - 8.5
Dimitri once again was a difference maker for Mohun Bagan. The Aussie opened the scoring for the Mariners with a great header, and was poaching Chennaiyin’s goal all night long.

.Glan came on in the 66th minute, but made no real impact whatsoever.

Provided a lot of stability in the backline, and helped Mohun Bagan keep their lead intact.
Armando Sadiku - 6.5
Created a few chances down the wings, and also played a few decent passes in the midfield
