Momentum is very important in football: Conor Nestor
Conor Nestor believes the players' best performance is yet to come.
Hyderabad FC will be travelling to face Jamshedpur FC at the Furnace on Thursday in their next Indian Super League (ISL 2023-24) fixture. Conor Nestor, the first team coach, expects his team to pounce on a struggling JFC, secure points and gain momentum.
He spoke about the stakes ahead of the game where both teams are winless and desperate for a win. Furthermore, the tactician gave insight into what to expect from the band of new players in the squad. Sahil Tavora also joined him and presented his opinions ahead of a crucial fixture against Jamshedpur FC.
Here are the excerpts from the conversation:
Importance of momentum
Conor Nestor talked about the importance of momentum and how both teams will be looking to gain some with a positive result in the upcoming game. He said, “Momentum is very important in football and when you pick up points and start winning that momentum carries you through. Both clubs are in the same position coming into this game off a loss. Both teams will have the same idea of trying to pick up a win and to build that momentum going forward.”
The best is yet to come
Conor Nestor was pleased with several of his debutants in the narrow defeat against East Bengal. “Pete (Pennanen) along with all other new signings we have brought, ticks a lot of boxes according to me. He has experience, very good game intelligence and is a top professional. Those are the kind of guys I want around the players that are already here, who also tick those boxes as well. He has fit into the group really well and it’s a strong and united group with a great mindset. I think he did quite well against East Bengal. But what I can say about Pete and every other player is that the best is yet to come,” he said in this regard.
Sahil Tavora on lessons learnt
Sahil Tavora is set to play a key role in the season ahead for Hyderabad FC. Talking about the learnings from the heartwrenching defeat to EBFC, he said, “After the last game, we learnt a lot about our team including the positives and the things we need to work on. Those 90 minutes have helped us prepare for this game. We’ve come here to put on a good show and hopefully get the win.”
