Our opponent capitalized on their chances, we failed: Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera
Odisha FC was leading the game till the 66th minute
Odisha FC suffered yet another defeat in the ongoing Indian Super League. They encountered the mighty Kerala Blasters FC at the renowned Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, located in Kochi, Kerala.
The match commenced on a promising note for the Odisha FC as they displayed a proactive approach, constantly attacking their opponents. Notably, in the 15th minute, Diego Mauricio seized an opportunity and successfully transformed it into a goal.
However, Diego was unable to score in his following attempt as he failed to convert a penalty, which had the potential to provide them with a significant advantage.
Odisha FC concluded the opening half with a one-goal advantage. However, in the second half, Kerala Blasters FC enhanced their performance and Dimitrios Diamantakos successfully equalized the score in the 66th minute.
Moving forward, Adrian Luna managed to secure the second goal in the 84th minute for the home team, effectively seizing control of the game from the dominant opponents. Despite Odisha FC's utmost efforts to level the score prior to the conclusion of the match, they ultimately had to accept a defeat.
The post-match press conference was attended by Odisha FC’s head coach Sergio Lobera. He stated with a bit of disappointment, “In the initial period of the match, we exhibited a dominant performance, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, we failed to secure a second goal. However, as the second half unfolded, we seemed to lose control over ball possession. This proved to be the turning point, as our opponents successfully capitalized on each of their chances, whereas we failed to do so.”
“Ultimately, the outcome of the game hinged upon our missed opportunities. Regrettably, we were unable to convert the chances that came our way, while our adversaries from Kerala managed to make the most of theirs”, he added.
Odisha FC’s next match is against Bengaluru FC at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on October 31st, 2023.
