Prabir Das was part of a few clumsy clashes toward the end of the ISL game.
Kerala Blasters FC lost their first Indian Super League 2023-24 fixture following a 2-1 defeat away to Mumbai City FC on Sunday. The game was entertaining, but the end saw a lot of ugly clashes between players and flaring up of emotions. One player involved in several bust-ups was Prabir Das, who was seemingly grabbed in a chokehold by Rostyn Griffiths towards the end of the game.
The KBFC defender was clearly shaken up by the incident and left the field in tears. Now, Prabir Das has come forward with a statement on Twitter (X) regarding the controversy which took place on the field and talks about the unwarranted abuse thrown at his mother. “In the game of football, victories and defeats are inevitable, but the essence of true sportsmanship must prevail. Disagreements on the field are commonplace, but there exists a boundary that should never be crossed,” he stated.
Abuses hurled at Prabir Das’ mother
In a shocking turn of events, Prabir Das revealed that his mother was abused which was extremely unfortunate, to say the least. “Today, my mother, who stood by me through thick and thin, became the target of unwarranted abuse. I hail from a background marked by resilience and countless sacrifices undertaken by my mother, allowing me to pursue my dream on the national stage. These sacrifices, made by my loved ones, deserve the utmost respect. Despite the unfavourable outcome, my tears weren't of defeat but of anguish, seeing my mother dishonoured,” he revealed.
Prabir Das further added, “I am not one to easily succumb to adversity; we will learn, adapt, and press on. Yet, I want to emphasize that my tears were shed out of love for my mother, not weakness. To my opponent, I implore you to recognize the values that bind us - respect for our elders and reverence for our kin. Such derogatory remarks may have earned you points, but they cost you my respect.”
The full-back also credits his family for making sacrifices in order to see him chart a career in football. He stated, “If finding solace in belittling others brings you peace, so be it. In life, not everyone understands the sacrifices families make to nurture dreams. For those born with privilege, the struggles of others often remain inconceivable. Let's remember, that behind every dream stands a family that has given up its own."
