Subroto Cup 2023: CBSE join Chandigarh in Junior Boys U-17 category finals
Chandigarh reach back-to-back Subroto Cup finals
The U-17 boys category of the 62nd Subroto Cup has reached its final day of competition. Following their victories in the semifinal rounds at the Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi, the teams from Chandigarh and Uttarakhand have advanced to the final stage, where they will contend for the championship title.
Previously in the Subroto Cup 2023 quarter-final match held on Friday, Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh, T.G English Medium School from Manipur, Govt. Haulawang High School from Haulawang, Lunglei, Mizoram, and Amenity Public School from Rudrapur, Uttrakhand (CBSE) emerged victorious in their respective matches, securing their spots in the semifinal round.
Semifinal 1
In the first Subroto Cup 2023 semi-final match Govt. Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh faced T.G English Medium School of Manipur.
The match had some delightful moments for the spectators as both the teams had their chances in the middle but were unable to convert it into a goal. Just like the first half, the second half of the match also ended without any goals being scored.
The match extended into additional time. Within a mere four minutes of the additional time, the Chandigarh team was granted a penalty. Capitalizing on this opportunity, Lalchenba flawlessly seized the moment and successfully netted the sole goal of the match, propelling Govt. Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh into the final of the tournament.
Semifinal 2
The second Subroto Cup 2023 semi final was played between Govt. Haulawang High School, Haulawang, Lunglei, Mizoram and Amenity Public School, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand who are representing CBSE.
The team from Uttarakhand showcased an impressive performance during the quarter-final stage, securing a convincing 3-0 victory over their opponents. Their strong presence on the field was evident from the beginning of the match as they assertively sought to gain possession of the ball.
In the opening minutes of the match, Mahesh managed to secure the first goal for Uttarakhand in the 15th minute, consequently granting his team an early advantage. Throughout the entirety of the game, Uttarakhand maintained their lead, until the 70+4 minute when Ngurthanmawla's equalizing goal altered the dynamics of the match.
The additional duration of the match concluded without any goals being scored, thereby necessitating a penalty shootout to determine the victor. To the delight of all observers, the penalty shootout continued until both teams had taken their 10th shots.
Finally, after an intense penalty shootout, Amenity Public School from Rudrapur, Uttarakhand (CBSE) emerged victorious with a scoreline of 8-7. They have secured their place in the final and now they will be going head-to-head with Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh for the Subroto Cup 2023 Junior Boys title.
