The 62nd edition of the Subroto Cup Junior Boys (U-17) Inter-School Football Tournament concluded successfully with a thrilling finale on 23rd October 2023.

In the closely contested match, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh emerged as the champions, prevailing over Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand in a penalty shootout. The victory was celebrated as a testament to their remarkable performance and determination.

Throughout the duration of the tournament, numerous players exhibited their talents at the sporting event, endeavoring to make a lasting impression on sports enthusiasts.

In this article, we look at the top five players of the Subroto Cup U-17 Boys category. We didn't rank them!

Boinao Singh

The first and foremost name that comes to mind while discussing top performers is Boinao Singh. The talented player hails from Uttarakhand and was a vital cog for Amenity Public School of Rudrapur, representing CBSE in the tournament.

Boinao's unwavering determination and skill in exploiting the defensive gaps were truly captivating to witness. Furthermore, his exceptional ability to score goals with precise finishing touches proved to be the most valuable asset for his team. He also received the best player award in the U-17 Boys category.

Lalchenba

Lalchenba of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 37 B, Chandigarh displayed exceptional performance in both the quarter-final and the semi-final matches. He single-handedly scored all the goals for his team in both the outings, thereby securing their spot in the final.

The young player demonstrated remarkable dribbling abilities, enabling him to surpass the defensive line on numerous occasions. Moreover, he exhibited clinical precision in his assists, delivering flawless crosses on multiple instances.

Birramjit

Although Birramjit's team, T.G English Medium School of Manipur, was unable to secure a spot in the finals after being defeated by the team from Chandigarh in the semis, Birramjit delivered an outstanding performance throughout the tournament. His remarkable skills and talent didn't go unnoticed.

In the quarter-final, he was instrumental in scoring three goals for his team, thereby playing a crucial role in securing his side's place in the semi-finals. Similarly, in the semifinals, he posed a constant threat to the opposition, but was unable to find the decisive touch to score a goal. Throughout the competition, the young player exhibited remarkable stamina and consistently motivated his teammates on multiple occasions.

Kunal

Kunal, the goalkeeper of Amenity Public School in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament. He showcased exceptional skills, swiftly intercepting the opponent's advances and preventing them from scoring goals. His strategic positioning and agile reflexes greatly contributed to the team's success.

He played a crucial role in his team's victory in the semi-finals, displaying composure and skill by saving a penalty in a shootout that had extended to the 10th round (sudden death in footballing terms).

Anshu

The final victory of Govt. Model Senior Secondary School of Sector 37 B, Chandigarh can be attributed not only to their effective forward play, but also to their strong defensive capabilities. Their well-organized defence effectively contained the threats posed by the opposition throughout the entire match.

In most instances, Anshu took the leadership role in the backline, effectively handling the opposition and executing timely clearances to prevent the ball from approaching the six-yard box.
