The 62nd edition of Subroto Cup Junior Boys (U-17) Inter-School International Football Tournament came to a successful end as Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh were crowned champions when they beat Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand on penalties in a dramatic and close fought encounter. In this article, we will be having a look at how the category went and everything which was witnessed.

The first day of the 62nd Subroto Cup Junior Boys (U-17) Inter-School International Football Tournament witnessed high-scoring group stage matches. Key results included Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, winning 14-0 over Shaheed Jawan Muthukoya Memorial SSS from Lakshadweep, and M.I.C English Medium H.S, Kerala, securing an 18-0 victory against Laxman Gyanpith DLSS from Gujarat.

At the Subroto Park Football Ground, T.G English Medium School from Manipur won 3-0 against Ramkrishna Mission Vivekanand Vidyapith from Chhattisgarh, and DG NCC, Kolkata, West Bengal, beat Inventure Academy, Bangalore, 3-1. In Group D, Assam Rifles Public School, Shillong, claimed a 14-0 victory over St. Francis Xavier High School from Silvassa, DD & DNH, while Sanjeevan Vidhyaniketan & Chhatrapati Shivaji Kanishta Mahavidyalaya from Kolhapur, Maharashtra, won 15-0 against Navy Children School, Mumbai. 

At the Ambedkar Stadium, Govt. Haulawang High School from Mizoram scored 26 goals against Army Public School from Jammu & Kashmir, and Mamta Modern School, New Delhi, secured a 17-0 win over Air Force Bal Bharti School. In Group F, Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sikkim, won 4-1 against Mother International School, and Don Bosco Vaduthala from Kerala narrowly defeated Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School, Pakur, Jharkhand, 3-2.

On Day 2 of the 62nd Subroto Cup Inter-School International Football Tournament, high-scoring matches were a highlight. Mamta Modern School, New Delhi, secured the most significant victory, winning 31-0 against Army Public School, Jammu & Kashmir, at the Ambedkar Stadium.

At the G.D Goenka Football Ground, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, earned their second win by defeating +2 Durga Uchh Vidyalay from Bihar 5-0, while in the same group, Ramakrishna Mission School, Aalo, Arunachal Pradesh, beat Shaheed Jawan Muthukoya Memorial SSS, Lakshadweep, 2-1. In Group B, M.I.C English Medium H.S, Kerala, won 9-0 against The Emerald Heights School from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Protishthan (BKSP) achieved a massive 21-0 win against Laxman Gyanpith DLSS from Gujarat.

At the Subroto Park Football Ground, T.G English Medium School, Manipur, secured their second win with a 2-0 victory over Inventure Academy, Bangalore, and Ramkrishna Mission Vivekanand Vidyapith from Chhattisgarh won 2-0 against Shri Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Bhaktapur, Nepal. In Group D, Assam Rifles Public School, Shillong, earned their second win with a 9-0 victory over Navy Children School, Mumbai. In Group E, Govt. Haulawang High School, Mizoram, secured their second win with a 5-0 victory over Kamla Devi Public School, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, and Mamta Modern School, New Delhi, dominated with a 31-0 victory over Army Public School.

In Group F, D.A.V Inter-College, Uttarakhand, won 6-1 against Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Jharkhand, and Mother International School, Jharkhand, won 4-0 against Don Bosco, Kerala. At the Tejas Football Ground, Tripura Sports School, Tripura, secured their second straight win in Group G by beating Vasant Rao Dempo H.S.S of Arts, Science & Commerce, Goa, 4-1. Sainik School, Mizoram, had a convincing 8-0 win over P.M Shri GSSS Gangwa, Haryana. In Group H, Greenwood School, Nagaland, recorded a 7-0 victory over Kendriya Vidyalaya, Assam, and Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand, overcame Guru Gobind Sports College, Uttar Pradesh, with a 2-0 win for their second victory in the group.

On Day 3, Kerala's M.I.C English Medium H.S and Chandigarh's Govt. Model Senior Secondary School qualified for the quarterfinals from Group B and Group A, respectively. Kerala defeated Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Protishthan (BKSP) 4-2, while Chandigarh beat Ramakrishna Mission School, Arunachal Pradesh, 4-1.

In other matches, +2 Durga Uchh Vidyalay, Bihar, beat Shaheed Jawan Muthukoya Memorial SSS, Lakshadweep, 2-0, and The Emerald Heights School, Madhya Pradesh, won 2-1 against Laxman Gyanpith DLSS, Gujarat. T.G English Medium School, Manipur, secured a 2-1 victory over NCC Kolkata, and Shri Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Nepal, won 3-1 against Inventure Academy, Bangalore. St. Francis Xavier High School, Silvassa, DD & DNH, drew 2-2 with Navy Children School, Mumbai. Govt. 

Haulawang High School, Mizoram, won 4-0 against Air Force Bal Bharti School, while Kamla Devi Public School, Madhya Pradesh, dominated with a 25-0 win over Army Public School. Mother International School, Jharkhand, won 3-1 against D.A.V Inter-College, Uttarakhand, and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sikkim, drew 1-1 with Don Bosco Vaduthala, Kerala. Tripura Sports School, Tripura, and Bampather Bengenabari HSS played to a 2-2 draw, while Vasant Rao Dempo H.S.S, Goa, secured a 13-0 win over P.M Shri GSSS Gangwa, Haryana. In another match, Greenwood School, Nagaland, edged out Guru Gobind Sports College, Uttar Pradesh, 4-3, and Sudarshanpur Dwarika Prasad Uchh Vidyachakra, West Bengal, won 3-0 against Kendriya Vidyalaya, Assam.

On Day 4 of The 62nd Subroto Cup Inter School International Football Tournament, T.G English School, Manipur, Govt. Haulawang High School, Mizoram, and Mother International School, Jharkhand, advanced to the quarterfinals from Group C, E, and F. Mizoram edged Mamta Modern School, New Delhi, 3-2, Manipur's T.G English School won 3-0 against Shri Sainik Awasiya Mahavidyalaya, Nepal, and Jharkhand's Mother International School won 5-0 against Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. Other matches saw Kamla Devi Public School, Madhya Pradesh, triumph 7-0 over Air Force Bal Bharti School, New Delhi, and Govt. Senior Secondary School, Sikkim, drew 1-1 with D.A.V Inter-College, Uttarakhand. 

Tripura Sports School, Tripura, secured a 7-0 victory over P.M Shri GSSS Gangwa, Haryana, while Bampather Bengenabari H.S.S, Assam, won 6-0 against Sainik School, Mizoram. In Group H, Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand, won 6-0 against Greenwood School, Nagaland, and Guru Gobind Sports College, Uttar Pradesh, secured a 1-0 win against Sudarshanpur Dwarika Prasad Uchh Vidyachakra, West Bengal. In Group C, NCC Kolkata won 1-0 against Ramkrishna Mission Vivekanand Vidyapith, Chhattisgarh. In Group D, Sanjeevan Vidhyaniketan & Chhatrapati Shivaji Kanishta Mahavidyalaya, Maharashtra, won 11-1 against St. Francis Xavier High School, Silvassa, DD & DNH, and Assam Rifles Public School, Meghalaya, won 1-0 against Khajaman H.S.S, Tamil Nadu.

On Day 5, Sanjeevan Vidhyaniketan, Maharashtra, Bampather Bengenabari H.S.S, Assam, and Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand, secured their spots in the quarterfinals. They joined other teams, including M.I.C English Medium H.S, Kerala, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, T.G English School, Manipur, Govt. Haulawang High School, Mizoram, and Mother International School, Jharkhand. These quarterfinals took place on October 20. In the last group stage games, various results included high-scoring draws and wins, with teams from different regions demonstrating their skills.

The quarterfinals of the 62nd Subroto Cup 2023 concluded with teams from Chandigarh, Manipur, Mizoram, and Uttarakhand advancing to the semifinals. In the first quarterfinal, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, defeated M.I.C English Medium H.S, Kerala, with a solitary goal by Lalchenba. The second quarterfinal witnessed T.G English Medium School, Manipur, dominating over Sanjeevan Vidhyaniketan, Maharashtra, with a 4-0 victory, including a hat-trick by Birramjit. In the third quarterfinal, Govt. Haulawang High School, Mizoram, secured their place in the semis with goals by Adreas and Mesak. In the fourth quarterfinal, Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand, triumphed over Bampather Bengenabari H.S.S, Assam, with Boinao and Arjun scoring late goals.

In the first semifinal of Subroto U-17 Boys Cup 2023, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, faced T.G English Medium School, Manipur. The match remained goalless during regular play, extending into extra time. Lalchenba scored a crucial penalty goal in the 104th minute, sending Chandigarh to the tournament final.

In the second semifinal, Govt. Haulawang High School, Mizoram, met Amenity Public School, Uttarakhand (CBSE). The match started with an early goal by Mahesh for Uttarakhand in the 15th minute. However, in the 70+4 minute, Ngurthanmawla equalized for Mizoram, leading to a penalty shootout. After a thrilling shootout that saw both teams score 10 penalties, Amenity Public School emerged victorious with an 8-7 scoreline. They now advance to the final against Govt. Model Senior Secondary School from Chandigarh for the Subroto Cup 2023 Junior Boys title.

In the U-17 Junior Boys category of the 62nd Subroto Cup, Govt. Model Senior Secondary School from Sector 37 B, Chandigarh, were crowned champions. They clinched victory in the final, defeating Amenity Public School, Rudrapur, Uttarakhand, who represented CBSE, in a penalty shootout. The intense match ended in a draw after regular and extra time, but Chandigarh secured the title as their goalkeeper saved CBSE's third penalty, leading them to 5-3 penalty victory and the championship trophy.
