Arsenal lost 2-1 to Ligue 1 side Lens

During Tuesday night's Champions League Group B match between Arsenal and Lens in France, Bukayo Saka hobbled off while holding his leg.

After assisting Gabriel Jesus on the first goal of the match to make history by being the sole player in the best five leagues in Europe to have five goals and five assists this season, the 22-year-old was substituted by Fabio Vieira in the 34th minute.

Saka has started each of Arsenal's last 87 matches in a row, a club mark that dates as far as May 2021. Saka has been a constant for Arsenal.

He was taken out with a foot injury late in Saturday's 4-0 league victory against Bournemouth, but doctors determined he was healthy enough to start on Tuesday.

Arteta added: "He tried to backheel a ball in the first half. He felt something. It was muscular. He was uncomfortable and we had to take him off.

"We don't know anything more than that. It was big enough not to allow him to play the rest of the game and that is a worry for us."

Arteta was then asked if Saka would play against Manchester City, and he replied: "I haven't a clue. I don't know".

When questioned if he had any rues after picking Saka against Lens, Arteta said: "No. It was a knock that he had the other day and he was perfectly fine. It was a backheel, an action that can produce that kind of injury. Let's see what the extent of it is and afterwards it's too late.

"The last few were more knocks than anything else. He hasn't really missed games. We gave him a break against Brentford last week and that was all."

Prior to Sunday's match between the two teams who battled for the Premier League championship last season, the England international's fitness will be a major concern.

Treble-winners In their most recent league encounter, City easily defeated Arsenal, winning 4-1 at the Etihad in April prior to continuing to win their third straight league title.

However, Rodri won't be playing for Pep Guardiola's team against Arsenal since the midfielder received a straight red card against Nottingham Forest and must serve the last match of a three-match ban.
