Cristiano Ronaldo recently reacted to a video posted by Spanish journalist Tomas Roncero, who criticised Lionel Messi for winning his eighth Ballon d'Or.

Tomás Roncero said: “Hello friends what we knew has happened, they were going to give another Ballon d’Or to Messi. He went to retire at Miami, but he was already looking like retired at PSG to prepare for the World Cup, he won the World Cup, yes, well, but with 6 penalties."

He added, "The World Cup was 10 months ago, we’re in November. Messi has eight Ballon d’Ors well, he should’ve had five, he has the Ballon d’Ors of Iniesta/Xavi, Lewandowski who won 6 trophies in one season, and Haaland who was the top scorer of everything.”

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner commented a few laughing emojis on the video posted by astelevision on their Instagram handle.

Lionel Messi won the award for the eighth time. He is a record holder and finished ahead of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. Messi currently plays for Inter Miami in the MLS and led them to their first-ever silverware.

Erling Haaland won the Gerd Muller Trophy for most goals scored. Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid was awarded the Kopa Trophy for being the best U-21 player in the world.

Aitana Bonmati won the women's Ballon d'Or 2023. She won the treble with Barcelona and also lifted the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 with Spain.

Manchester City won the best club award for the second consecutive time.

Cristiano Ronaldo missed the ceremony. He failed to make it to the top 30 for the first time in over 20 years. The Portuguese has returned to form for Al Nassr. Ronaldo will look to achieve more success with the club and compete with the best at the top level.
