Shillong Lajong FC earned their second straight win in the I-League with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Delhi FC at the SSA Stadium on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
In the battle of two promoted sides, Senegalese striker Karim Samb opened the scoring for Shillong Lajong in the 24th minute. Delhi FC got back on level terms in the 60th minute through Gaurav Rawat, who netted two goals in his side’s sensational 5-1 win over Aizawl last week.
However, local boy Phrangki Buam ensured a win for the hosts with his 82nd minute strike.
After defeating two-time champions Gokulam Kerala FC last time out, this win propelled Lajong to fourth place in the table with nine points from two wins and three draws. Delhi FC, meanwhile, are sixth in the table, with seven points from five outings.
For their next assignment, Shillong Lajong FC will play their fifth home game on the trot against bottom side TRAU FC on November 25, whereas Delhi FC will square off against NEROCA FC in Sri Bhaini Sahib on November 27.
