I-League 2023-24: Team of the Week for GW 3

Proven stars like Samad Ali Mallick, Salam Ranjan Singh shined this week

With the conclusion of the third week in the I-league 2023-24, several teams have managed to maintain a commendable level of performance, while others have encountered difficulties in finding their rhythm during matches and are yet to secure a victory.

Gokulam Kerala FC currently holds the top position in the table with seven points. Following closely behind is Mohammedan SC, also with seven points but a two-goal difference from Gokulam Kerala, placed them in second position. They are followed by Sreenidi Deccan and Real Kashmir.  

In this article we will take a look at the players who have made it to the team of the week in the third week of play. 

GK – Devansh Dabas (Gokulam Kerala)

Although Rajasthan FC did not pose a significant threat to Gokulam Kerala in their previous match, it was Devansh Dabas who prevented the opposition from scoring. Despite the defense being breached, Dabas stood firm, neutralizing all the attacks.

RB – Samad Ali Mallick (Mohammedan SC)

Samad Ali has once again been included in the top eleven of the week. Right from the opening minutes of each game, his exceptional performance stands out. His composure while defending and executing clearances without any misconduct is truly captivating.

CB – Daniel Goncalves (Shillong Lajong)

Daniel not only guarded the defense line  but also scored the sole goal for Shillong in the game against NEROCA, resulting in their second draw of the season.

CB – Pawan Kumar (Sreenidi Deccan)

Pawan once again secures a place in the top eleven. Despite Deccan’s defeat, Pawan emerged as the solitary warrior during the mid part of the game, when Aizawl adopted an aggressive playing style. He also scored a goal for his side with a header in 90+7 minutes of play.

LB – Salam Ranjan Singh (Gokulam Kerala)

Salam displayed occasional moments of aggression on the field and even received a cautionary yellow card. However, the young player made remarkable clearances and also provided valuable support to Devansh. Together, their combined efforts prevented Rajasthan FC from scoring a single goal.

CDM – Rosenberg Gabriel (Sreenidi Deccan)

Gabriel showcased remarkable agility as he sprinted vigorously while delivering exceptional crosses. He assumed a pivotal position in the midfield, consistently strategizing and executing precise passes to maintain the fluidity of the game.

CAM – Martin Chaves (Churchill Brothers)

Martin Chaves demonstrated exceptional synergy with Rahul Raju on the right wing. The midfielders exhibited impeccable control over the game within their domain and consistently orchestrated opportunities for their team. 

RW – Rahul Raju (Churchill Brothers)

Rahul Raju, together with Martin Chaves, played a crucial role in Churchill Brother’s triumph over Real Kashmir. Particularly in the closing moments of the game, when their goalkeeper received a red card, they effectively maintained ball possession in the midfield, strategically keeping it away from the penalty area.

LW – Nili (Gokulam Kerala)

Nili has showcased exceptional performance for Gokulam. Despite not having scored any goals, the presence of this Spanish player provides an added advantage for Gokulam Kerala in their forward line.

ST – Bawlte Rohmingthanga (Aizawl FC)

Bawlte made it to the list just for his one goal in the match Sreenidi Deccan. While he managed to score two goals in the game, it was his astonishing long-range shot in the 90+1st minute that truly captivated everyone. Taking the shot from the midfield, he skillfully found the back of the net, leaving the goalkeeper helpless.

ST – Mario Barco (Inter Kashi)

Inter Kashi FC, the debutant team, secured their first victory of the season. Despite facing an initial setback, they showcased dominance throughout the match. Notably, Mario Barco emerged as the hero by scoring two goals, enabling his team to overcome the one-goal deficit and clinch the win.
