FC Goa climb up to the top spot in points table

In a dominant performance away from home, FC Goa secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC. The Goan side displayed their attacking prowess right from the start, with Boris Thangjam opening the scoring to give them an early lead. A stroke of luck added to their advantage when Rowlin Borges’ deflected shot found the back of the net, making it 2-0.

The Indian Super league (ISL) match’s icing on the cake came from substitute Udanta Singh, who unleashed a brilliant strike to seal the victory at 3-0 in the second half. FC Goa’s clinical display left Chennaiyin FC struggling to find a response, resulting in a comprehensive win for the visitors.

Here are the player ratings for the game

Chennaiyin FC (By: Analoy Majumder)

Debjit Majumder: 6.0

Debjit Majumder had to concede an early goal in the first quarter, followed by another goal inside a few minutes. It was definately not Debjit’s day, as he had to concede three goals in total.

Ankit Mukherjee: 6.0

The defender made important stops in front of goal, but he was unable to stop the Goan attackers from scoring. Ankit made a couple committed tackles in the defensive line and had a few helpful interceptions.

Ryan Edwards: 7.0

Ryan Edwards, the captain of the Marina Machans, stayed in good form inside his zones of play. Did effectively both defensively and offensively, and provided his side tremendous momentum throughout.

Sachu: 6.5

Sachu showed considerable faith in the defensive line today with successful tackles and key interceptions. Added defensive solidity and worked effectively with other defenders.

Bikash Yumnam: 6.5

Although he has to focus much more on his conditioning, Bikash Yumnam made a few excellent runs with the ball and assisted the defense in keeping the attackers away from the goal.

Cristian Damian Battocchio: 6.5

To stop FC Goa players from creating moves in the middle half, Battocchio performed well in Chennaiyin’s midfield. He applied a lot of pressure to the players in an attempt to get possession of the ball in the middle.

Ayush Adhikari: 6.0

Ayush’s performance against the formidable Goan defence was sloppy and might have been more successful in the attacking phase. In addition to winning a few ball possessions, Ayush overcame and Seriton in a few duels.

Rafael Crivellaro: 6.5

Crivellaro was not in best today, making devastating crosses and effortlessly penetrating the Punjab defence. Provided one assist and scored one goal for Chennaiyin from the penalty spot immediately before the end of the first half.

Farukh Choudhary: 6.0

Farukh Choudhary was effective offensively but fell short of expectations. Did well in the middle and contributed offensively but was left to find a goal for his team.

Rahim Ali: 6.0

Rahim delivered a notable effort and performed admirably playing alongside Connor Shields. Made key passes in the box and came close to scoring two times along with winning few ground duels.

Connor Shields: 6.5

Connor Shields performed admirably offensively for Chennaiyin. He never stopped putting pressure on the Goan defenders. Tried to take advantage of every opportunity but left to find the back of the net.

Substitutes

Vincy Baretto: 6.5

Vincy after coming in the second half brought in more pace to Chennaiyin’s attacking part. Paired well with Murray and Shields in finding scoring chances.

Jiteshwor: 6.5

Jiteshwor replaced Damian Battocchio in the middle to add greater control. Jiteshwor also aided Chennaiyin’s defense and offense by outdueling Goan players on multiple occasions.

Jordan Murray: 6.5

Jordan Murray added extra offensive prowess after arriving. Jordan Murray attempted to score every time he received the ball for Chennaiyin, but left to score and pull back any goal for the Marina Machans.

Mohammed Rafique: 6.5

After receiving game time after a lengthy absence, Mohammed Rafique added fresh legs to the team and performed significantly after he came and improved greatly.

Romario Jesuraj: 5.5

Romario played well with his teammates after arriving, but he did not leave a lasting impression.

A much needed confidence boosting goal on his first start of the season early in the match help calm the nerves. Provided his side with constant width.
