Ratings: Victor's brilliance helps FC Goa reclaim top spot

FC Goa were lucky since Jamshedpur FC were disallowed a controversial goal.

In a fiercely contested ISL 2023-24 battle that saw FC Goa assert their dominance, a clash against Jamshedpur FC unfolded as a testament to resilience and strategic prowess. Throughout the match, the Goan side dictated the tempo, creating numerous goal-scoring opportunities. The woodwork felt the thunderous impact of Noah Sadaoui and Rowlin Borges’ attempts, while Boris Singh and Noah narrowly missed converting promising chances into goals.

As the game hung in the balance, Manolo Marquez’s second half substitutions, Udanta Singh and Victor Rodriguez, proved to be instrumental. Their combined efforts culminated in a decisive goal, securing a 1-0 triumph for FC Goa. 

With this pivotal win, FC Goa now stands atop the table with 16 points, sharing the summit with Kerala Blasters, albeit having played one match less.

Arshdeep Singh – 7

Hardly tested but did his bit while in possession of the ball. 

Seriton Fernandes – 7

A solid performance in defence from the reliable right-back.

Odei Onaindia – 8

Dealt with everything that came his way but was also aided by the poor attacking play of Jamshedpur. 

Sandesh Jhingan – 7

A dominant display by the towering centre-back. However, Len Kuki was able to get past him to score a disallowed goal. 

Jay Gupta – 8

The in-form left-back started from where he had left off before the international break. Steadily building reputation as the standout left-back in the ISL. 

Rowlin Borges – 8

One of Rowlin’s best performances of the season. Combined his defensive work-rate with constant runs forward and almost scored with a powerful shot. 

Carl Mchugh – 7

Another solid performance from the Irish midfielder. His brilliant pass was not converted by Noah as he hit the woodwork.  

Noah Sodaoui – 8

The biggest threat for the Jamshedpur FC defence as he constantly threatened them and could have bagged a couple of goals if not for the woodwork and a goal-line clearance. 

Brandon Fernandes – 7

FC Goa’s creator-in-chief delivered another impressive performance. Brilliant on the ball, Brandon was seen constantly creating chances for the forwards. 

Boris Singh – 7

Had a mixed appearance as he missed a golden opportunity but created two of FC Goa’s best opportunities in the first half. 

Carlos Martinez – 6

Another quiet night for the forward whose performance will be a source of worry for the manager.

A brilliant sub as he scored the much-needed winner for FC Goa.

A competitive 20-odd minutes by the midfielder.

Vishal Yadav – 6

Withstanding a barrage of shots from FC Goa attackers, he displayed goalkeeping prowess, proving resilient and resolute throughout the match. Nothing he could do about the FC Goa goal.

PC Laldinpuia – 7.5

Laldinpuia showcased defensive solidity for Jamshedpur, executing swift recovery runs to support the high defensive line. His standout moment included a crucial goal-line clearance just before half time. He also received a yellow card.

Pratik Chaudhari – 6

Exposing defensive vulnerabilities, he faced relentless pressure from FC Goa attackers throughout the night. The backline occasionally struggled, revealing lapses in defensive coordination. Pratik too, received a yellow card.

Elsinho – 7

The Brazilian exhibited defensive strength, shadowing FC Goa’s attackers. In a bid to secure the lead, he attempted a header in the 56th minute, but unfortunately, it didn’t translate into a goal.

Provat Lakra – 6

Flawlessly partnering with Jamshedpur’s attack and defence, he demonstrated strength and composure in possession, contributing to a cohesive and effective team performance.

Rei Tachikawa – 6

Enduring a lackluster performance, he generated a few opportunities for his team. However, his impact was limited, leading to a substitution just after half time.

Jeremy Manzorro – 6

While adept at defensive duties, Manzorro struggled with the necessary talent and skills required to control Jamshedpur’s midfield effectively during the match. Received a yellow for an unnecessary challenge on Victor Rodriguez.

Imran Khan – 6

Despite exhibiting defensive prowess, the midfielder faced challenges in providing the essential talent and skills required to effectively command Jamshedpur FC’s midfield in the match.

Semboi Haokip – 5.5

Not a good overall performance from Haokip. However, he managed to pull some strings and create some good opportunities. Substituted just after half time.

Emil Benny – 6

Helped his team defensively by tracking back and keeping an extra body in the defence. His attacking contributions were however, very limited and ineffective. Was substituted in the second half.

Steve Ambri – 6

The forward failed to capitalise on minimal opportunities and made limited contributions to the team’s offensive efforts. Substituted in the 71st minute.

Len Kuki – 6.5

Had almost given Jamshedpur FC the equaliser, however, his goal was disallowed by the linesman (controversial offside call).

Alen Stevanovic – 7

One of the standout performers for Jamshedpur. The forward created numerous opportunities and performed exceptionally well, but couldn’t help his team get the equaliser.

Nikhil Barla – 5.5

Had less contribution and couldn’t help his team much.

Daniel Chima Chukwu – 5.5

Didn’t have much involvement on the field.
