Emil Forsberg reaches verbal agreement to join MLS club New York Red Bulls

Forsberg is on the verge of joining the MLS side
The New York Red Bulls' offseason plans seem to be in action as German publication Bild reports that they hope to recruit Emil Forsberg, a midfielder for RB Leipzig.
The 32-year-old Swedish international, who has been a member of Red Bull's Bundesliga team since the 2015 season, will remain with the company.
Forsberg, a two-time DFB-Pokal winner with Leipzig, has made 318 outings for the regulars in the UEFA Champions League, tallying 69 goals and 67 assists.
Forsberg's kind of player might need a designated player position, and the Red Bulls have one available (out of three total), along with attacker Dante Vanzeir and midfielder Luquinhas. He is a mainstay for Sweden, as he led their 2018 World Cup team and produced 20 goals in 84 games.
The Red Bulls and RB Leipzig have closed transactions in previous years; in December 2018, they famously sent indigenous midfielder Tyler Adams across the pond. In addition to the current captain of the USMNT, Caden Clark joined RBL in June 2021.
Officials from RBNY had already discussed raising expenditures for the 2024 season to improve on their league-high 14 consecutive trips to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs.
After barely winning on Decision Day (43 points; 11W-13L-10D), FC Cincinnati, the winners of the Supporters' Shield, whitewashed Troy Lesesne's team in Round One.
This also follows a period of ambiguity in the managerial division. Following a dismal run of results, Troy Lesesne was appointed as Gerhard Struber's replacement.
Although Lesesne received full backing from sporting director Jochen Schneider during his first press conference, the manager's term will come to an end after the current year.
Lesesne, who guided the Red Bulls to an MLS Cup Playoff appearance for a record-tying 14th consecutive season with a 14-8-10 record in 32 games, has not said whether he will remain with the team or whether a contract renewal is in the works.
