In a sudden turn of events, Japanese forward Takuto Miki has left I-League side Shillong Lajong FC. The news comes as a surprise as the prolific forward had only joined the Reds in the month of September.
The 20-year-old centre-forward has mutually terminated his contract with Shillong Lajong after featuring in six games for the I-League side.
Takuto Miki’s performance at Shillong Lajong
Shillong Lajong announced the signing of Takuto Miki on September 25 of this year. The 2003-born forward was signed with the expectation of blistering the attacking prowess of the Reds along with Senegalese forward Abdou Karim Samb.
Takuto Miki has been a regular starter for the Shillong Lajong side, scoring 2 goals for them in just six matches of the ongoing I-League. He started his short stint at the club with a banger, scoring a stunner against the mighty century-old Mohammedan Sporting Club of Kolkata in an away game, giving them the lead in the first half itself. The game however ended in a 1-1 draw.
Miki scored his second goal, which happens to be his last for Shillong Lajong in a 2-2 draw against Sreenidi Deccan FC.
The young & lethal forward has also been responsible for many threats felt by the defenders of Shillong Lajong’s opponents. Besides primarily featuring as a centre-forward, Miki has also catered as a winger for the team when required.
Impact of Takuto Miki’s departure on Shillong Lajong
Currently ranked fourth in the points table, Shillong Lajong is the only team besides Mohammedan Sporting to remain unbeaten in this season so far. Miki also is entitled to some credits for this amazing performance from Bobby Lyngdoh Nongbet’s side.
The Japanese youngster has proved to be dynamic with his contribution to the Shillong Lajong attack, often aiding with goals & picturesque chances. It would be interesting to see who Shillong Lajong officials sign next to continue their wonderful run in the I-League 2023-24.
