Ahmedabad to be blessed with five new stadiums
One will be a Olympic standard football stadium.
Keeping the 2036 Olympics in mind, the Government of India and Gujarat state government are undertaking initiatives to establish additional international standard stadiums in Ahmedabad. This development will encompass a football stadium of Olympic standard and four stadiums built to international level specifications.
As per the announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is actively pursuing the opportunity to host the 2036 Summer Olympics and the 2030 Youth Olympics. Recent reports indicate that the preliminary plan has been sanctioned by both the central and state governments. Furthermore, the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority has commenced the tendering process for the construction of five stadiums.
The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave is a significant development that is currently underway to cater to the needs of the 2036 Olympics. In addition to stadiums, it will also feature training facilities for athletes within the enclave.
The upcoming precinct along the Sabarmati riverfront will showcase a total of five new venues, adding to the existing Narendra Modi Stadium. These will comprise a 50,000 capacity football stadium, two indoor arenas with capacities of 18,000 and 10,000 respectively, a 12,000 capacity aquatics center, and a tennis center accommodating 10,000 spectators.
Reports indicate that the Gujarat Olympic Planning and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (GOLYMPIC) has initiated the detailed design and implementation process, with the intention to start construction of the enclave by October 2024 and anticipate completion by October 2027.
The venues have been meticulously designed to accommodate not only sporting competitions, but also a diverse range of entertainment and business events. While the primary objective of the master plan is to optimize comprehensive connectivity and accessibility within the broader area, thereby guaranteeing enduring advantages for the community.
This development will play an important role in making India a global sporting hub in the days to come, which will also cultivate the sporting culture in the country.
