Saudi Arabia have been granted the hosting rights of 2034 FIFA World Cup.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is planning on becoming a co-host at the 2034 FIFA World Cup alongside hosts Saudi Arabia. If the move happens, it will allow India to host a few matches of football’s most beautiful festival.

According to The New Indian Express, the governing body of football in India is in favour of hosting a few matches of the 2034 FIFA Men’s World Cup. Saudi Arabia were awarded the hosting rights in October after FIFA confirmed that they were the sole bidder for the 2034 World Cup.

India also supported Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the mega event in 2034 during an Emergency Congress of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) held on October 18, 2023.

Kalyan Chaubey wants India to co-host the 2034 FIFA World Cup

The President of the AIFF, Kalyan Chaubey told the executive committee members that India should think of hosting a few matches of the 2034 World Cup, according to The New Indian Express.

He also asked the executive committee to plan and work towards becoming a co-host of the 2034 FIFA World Cup and try and host around 10 matches of the global tournament.

“The president informed the house that India should think or plan to work towards being a co-host for the World Cup in 2034,” the draft minutes of the AIFF Executive Committee held on November 9 said.

The 2034 FIFA World Cup

The tournament will be a 48-team affair and will be held entirely in Asia in Saudi Arabia. The governing body of football, FIFA, had made it very clear that the 2034 World Cup will be held in Asia or Oceania and the nations restricted to that region were only allowed to bid for the hosting rights because the 2030 edition will be held in three continents (Africa, Europe and South America).

Saudi Arabia will also host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup before hosting the 2034 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
