I-League 2023-24: Team of the Week for GW 9

The 2023-24 I-League season is about to commence its tenth week of competition. During the previous week, several Indian players exhibited exceptional performances, reaffirming their value on the field for their respective clubs.
Mohammedan SC currently occupies the top position on the points table, having accumulated 20 points from the eight matches they have played thus far. Sreenidi Deccan follows closely behind with 17 points from nine games, while Shillong Lajong sits in third place with 16 points from eight games.
In this article we will take a look at the players who have made it to the team of the week with their performances in the ninth week.
GK – Naveen Kumar (Delhi FC)
Naveen Kumar emerged as the standout performer for Delhi FC in their match against Namdhari. The closely contested game, in which Delhi emerged victorious, could have had a different outcome if Naveen had not brilliantly thwarted some exceptional strikes from the opponents throughout the match.
RB – Joe Zoherliana (Aizawl FC)
The defender scored two goals in the match against TRAU, which significantly contributed to his team’s victory with a final score of 5-1. Additionally, he showcased remarkable clearances throughout the game. However, it was his exceptional performance in the attacking position that truly captivated the audience.
CB – Bali Gagandeep (Delhi FC)
Bali provided Delhi FC with an early advantage in the game by scoring a remarkable goal in the third minute of the play. This goal proved crucial in maintaining Delhi’s momentum throughout the match.
CB – Saurabh Bhanwala (Namdhari FC)
Saurabh exhibited exceptional endurance throughout the match, never receiving a booking nor being replaced. He also provided valuable tactical assistance to the defensive line, effectively stifling Delhi FC for the majority of the game.
LB – Munmum Lugun (Delhi FC)
Lugun exhibited her defensive prowess for Delhi, making several decisive tackles and clearances. His contributions were particularly notable in the second half of the match, as Namdhari adopted an aggressive approach in pursuit of scoring goals.
RM – Laiwang Bohham (Shillong Lajong)
Bohham netted the opening goal for Shillong in their encounter against Churchill Brothers, providing his team with a crucial advantage prior to the conclusion of the initial 45 minutes. This goal not only bolstered the team’s morale but also ensured their continued dominance throughout the match.
CM – Renan Paulino de Souza (Shillong Lajong)
Renan played a crucial role in the midfield, skillfully crafting opportunities for his team. Additionally, he exhibited leadership by converting a penalty in the 51st minute, thus granting his team a comfortable 2-0 advantage in the match.
AM – Sumeet Passi (Inter Kashi)
Passi provided Inter Kashi with an early advantage in the game, scoring a goal in the 4th minute of play. This early goal allowed Inter Kashi to adopt a positive approach against a formidable opponent right from the start of the match.
CM – Gyamar Nikum (Inter Kashi)
Nikum provided Inter Kashi with a significant advantage in the game by scoring their second goal in the 24th minute. Despite the match resulting in a draw, both Passi and Nikum’s goals played a crucial role in helping their team avoid a defeat.
LM – Richardson Kwaku Denzell (Rajasthan United)
Denzell successfully converted a penalty kick to secure the first goal for his team, despite being two goals behind. This crucial contribution spurred the team to mount a comeback, resulting in a draw against the highly confident Inter Kashi team.
ST – Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia (Aizawl FC)
Lalrinzuala has once again been selected for the team of the week due to his outstanding performances in the last game. He managed to score two goals and showcased his importance to the team with his impeccable finishing skills.
