Javier Siverio: I hold Cleiton Silva in high regard as a mentor

Javier Siverio started well in Durand Cup 2023 but is yet to fire in the ISL.

After a highly successful tenure with Hyderabad FC, Javier Siverio has recently made the transition to join the esteemed East Bengal side. In the ongoing 2023-24 season of the Indian Super League, he has already made his mark by participating in eight fixtures. 

However, it is regrettable to note that he is yet to find the back of the net for his new club, thereby eager to demonstrate his true value to the supporters.

In a recent interview with ISL Media, the 26-year-old Spaniard delved into his future preparations and various aspects of the game.

Career at East Bengal 

Siverio became a member of East Bengal in June 2023 and has since been part of the team in the Durand Cup and now ISL. On a question regarding his career at East Bengal, he replied, “I believe we have made a positive start. After a considerable period, we managed to reach the final of the Durand Cup. Although we were unable to secure the championship, our performance throughout the tournament was commendable. I am sincerely delighted to be a part of East Bengal FC.” 

Difference in coaching and the experience of playing with Cleiton Silva

From Manolo Marquez to Carles Cuadrat, Javier Siverio has gained experience of playing under some of the best coaches on Indian soil. When asked to differentiate between the two of the commanders, he said, “Every coach exhibits individuality, albeit sharing a common winning mentality. We are referring to two esteemed coaches, both of whom have previously achieved success by securing the ISL trophy.” 

“I derive immense pleasure from being under the guidance of Coach Carles, as he has demonstrated unwavering belief in my abilities. I aspire to reciprocate his trust by giving my utmost on the field,” he added. 

Cleiton Silva has emerged as a noteworthy player in the ISL. Transitioning from playing against him to playing alongside him, Siverio is currently undergoing a fresh phase of the game at East Bengal. He stated, “I am well acquainted with Cleiton. Prior to his arrival at East Bengal FC, I had the opportunity to compete against him on several occasions. His capabilities are well-known amongst all those participating in the ISL. I hold him in high regard as a mentor.” 

Siverio also praised the Brazilian for his game ethics. He said, “During our training sessions, Cleiton consistently demonstrates an unwavering commitment, complete with maximum sprints and exertion. This unwavering mindset is precisely why he has achieved such remarkable success as an attacker in the history of the ISL.”

Performance of Indian players and the fans of East Bengal

He praised Naorem Mahesh Singh and Nandhakumar Sekar for their performances at the front line. “We are fortunate to have two exceptionally talented Indian wingers as part of our team. It is crucial that we capitalize on this advantage and make the most of their exceptional skills. Both Mahesh and Nandha have displayed immense dedication and commitment, making them invaluable assets to our team.”

Fans of East Bengal are known to be one of the most loyal and die-hard fans in India. On a query regarding the fans, he stated, “The support from our fans has been truly remarkable. I am sincerely grateful to our fans for the immense love and support they demonstrate towards us on a daily basis.”
