Erik Paartalu hints at Bengaluru FC new coach appointment, criticizes club's activities

The former Bengaluru FC also expressed his disappointment on Grayson’s sacking.

Bengaluru FC, a club that once stood as a powerhouse in Indian football, finds itself in the midst of turmoil in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 season as a recent 4-0 drubbing by Mumbai City FC led to the sacking of head coach Simon Grayson. With the team currently enduring a six-game winless streak, the club is looking for a head coach that can turn the club fortunes.

Former BFC fan favorite, Erik Paartalu, added fuel to the speculation fire with a cryptic hint on social media. The drama unfolded on X (formerly Twitter), when Paartalu responded to Mourya Mondal, a former member of the ISL broadcasting team, with a tweet that sent shockwaves through the BFC fan base. Paartalu’s tweet read, “New Coach was locked and loaded before the 4-0 loss. Fans will see it as progressive but with the same stuff going on in the background and with the same squad.. what’s the purpose for the 2023/2024 season now?” 

However, This statement raises intriguing questions about the club’s decision-making process over the summer where Bengaluru FC, despite making significant signings in the overseas player department, appears to be grappling with issues stemming from a weak domestic core.

The club did not make significant additions in the domestic core as well as letting stalwart like Sandesh Jhingan who was an important member of the club last season for free. Paartalu’s critique of the team’s background activities and the continuity of the same squad raises concerns about the club’s overall strategy for the 2023/2024 season. 

The sacking of Simon Grayson has brought to the forefront the challenges faced by the coaching staff in striking the right team combination. The inconsistency in performance and the inability to secure victories have left fans frustrated and longing for a change that will bring stability and success back to their beloved club.
