Jamshedpur FC are the fairly successful silent performers in Indian football, and they have had quite a spell in the Indian Super League. Rather than making headline signings and paying hefty fees, the scouting team has relied on a team of efficacious performers. They have stood toe-to-toe against every opponent and played good football throughout and have had some great moments.
These victories have come against a variety of opponents, from league toppers to strugglers. And they have all been achieved in different style.
Jamshedpur FC have given the league some of the best attackers since their inception. Sergio Cidoncha, Michael Soosairaj, Sergio Castel and Greg Stewart are a few from the list. When the Men of Steel are in form, they are one of the most entertaining teams to watch in Indian football.
Jamshedpur FC have given the fans some memorable moments down the years, the 1-0 victory against Mohun Bagan on the last matchday in ISL 2021-22 to clinch the Shield is definitely the biggest of them. But let’s look at the top five biggest wins for Jamshedpur FC (in terms of goals) in the Indian Super League.
5. Jamshedpur FC 4-1 FC Goa (1st November, 2018)
Jamshedpur FC hosted the high flying Gaurs in an important encounter at the furnace in ISL 2018-19, and the game was balanced at 1-1 at half time. The Men of Steel came roaring in the second half and put three past the FC Goa defence to end it with a 4-1 scoreline at the final whistle.
The youngsters had some of their best moments under Cesar Ferrando in that game. Michael Soosairaj scored twice, and Sumeet Passi found the back of the net too!
4. Odisha FC 0-4 Jamshedpur FC (14th December, 2021)
Jamshedpur FC were coming back from a reality check defeat against Mumbai City FC to face the Juggernauts.
Their performance in the match was truly remarkable, as the game was put to bed within 35 minutes. Peter Hartley scored from a corner in the third minute of the game. Greg Stewart completed a hat-trick in the next 30 minutes to give the Red Miners flashes of what was waiting for them that season.
3. Jamshedpur FC 5-1 Bengaluru FC (27th February, 2019)
In the ISL 2018-19 season, a draw against Chennaiyin FC in their penultimate game ended Jamshedpur FC’s hopes of making it to the semi-finals. They then had to face the then table toppers Bengaluru FC at the Furnace on the last matchday of the season.
Semboi Haokip opened the scoring for the guests, and soon they had the chance to double their lead from the spot. Subrata Paul saved the spot-kick to keep his side in the game. Just before the half time, Jamshedpur FC found their equaliser and the game was evenly poised.
The Men of Steel had other ideas coming into the second half, as they scored four goals to win the match with a scoreline of 5-1. The game marked a perfect end to the campaign for the unlucky Red Miners who played good football throughout that season.
2. Jamshedpur FC 5-1 Odisha FC (4th March, 2022)
A 5-1 victory over Odisha FC at the business end (matchday 20) of the ISL 2021-22 season was a stunning result. Jamshedpur FC were among the favourites to win the Shield and dropping points against the struggling Juggernauts could have killed their chances.
Odisha FC were playing fearlessly as they had nothing to lose, but an upset was on the cards. Daniel Chima scored a brace in a 30-minute period and the game looked dusted until Paul Ramfangzauva pulled back one for Odisha to make the scoreline 2-1 at half time.
Owen Coyle’s men showed no mercy after the break, and retarded any chances of drama. They scored thrice again to win the game and Paul’s wonder-strike remained a consolation for the losing side.
1. Hyderabad FC 0-5 Jamshedpur FC (21st December, 2023)
The 5-0 victory over the Nizams at their home is the Men of Steel’s biggest ever win in the Indian Super League. It was also the first time they scored more than three goals since their league winning campaign two seasons back.
Daniel Chima Chukwu, the club’s all time leading goal-scorer, was the standout performer on the night. He became the second Jamshedpur FC player to net a hat-trick, and his individual brilliance combined with the team’s overall performance resulted in a resounding victory that came as the most pleasant surprise to the fans.
