Staikos Vergetis: In the last games, we faced opponents better defensively
Ashish Pradhan also shared his experience of this season.
Weary Punjab FC hosts the southern rivals Chennaiyin FC at their homeground at JLN Stadium in Delhi on Monday night. Staikos Vergetis’ side have not won any of their 10 games ever since their promotion in the competition . The Shers, no matter how, will again take on the field with the rejuvenated feeling of getting their first win.
The Marina Machans, on the other side are on a 4 game undefeated run and will want nothing less than three points in their bid to edge closer to the playoff spot before ISL goes on a break from December.
Staikos Vergetis spoke to the media in the evening before the game and shared their thoughts. Excerpts below:
Preparation for tomorrow’s game
Head coach Staikos Vergetis shed light on the team’s momentum on back to back games and preparation going into the game, he stated, “This is one situation that can happen in football many times. Previous year I remember we had several times this situation, but the professional players had to adapt in the schedule. The coaches also had to fix their intensity in the training so to be ready for the players to play again.
“This is our work and we have to adapt to this. We did what we should do, like recuperation for the players of the game. We prepared the players who did not play so to be able if necessary to come or to begin or to come during the game and we are well prepared for the tomorrow game,” he further added.
Lessons learnt from 10 matches
As stated earlier Punjab FC are on a 10 game winless run and are still searching for that perfect moment. However, along the journey the team has had few bright moments in bits and pieces.
The tactician spoke about the learnings and mentioned, “Game by game we have improved our defensive function, we are more tough, more strong in our defensive work in the first games with the transitions and the good quality of some opponent players but in the last games we faced them better defensively and we are not receiving offensive transition of opponents defensive for us so much. Sometimes the decision is not good, sometimes the execution of the final pass or the finalization is not good enough so to help our team to score.”
Ashis Pradhan comments
Ashish who joined his coach in the pre match presser shared his thoughts on the season up till now and mentioned, “ We are sticking to our coach’s plan. We are just giving our everything to get the three points. Again we will give our everything in this match and let’s hope for the best.”
