Groups revealed for 2024 Kalinga Super Cup

The group stages of Kalinga Super Cup will witness the famous Kolkata derby.

The 2023-24 Indian Super League (ISL) has almost reached the halfway mark with almost all the teams playing close to 10 matches or the same. The league will now undergo a break before commencing the second leg of the season as the Indian national football team will participate at the AFC Asian Cup in January, 2024.

While the Blue Tigers will be busy on international duty, the fans will not have to compromise on club football as the fourth edition of the Kalinga Super Cup will be played from January 9-28.

The latest edition of the knockout tournament will see all twelve Indian Super League clubs and four I-League clubs go up against each other for the ultimate prize. The 2024 Kalinga Super Cup will see the 16 participating teams being divided into four groups.

Each group will have four teams in it including three ISL clubs and one I-league club. The qualified clubs will take part in the knockouts before reaching the final. The groups of the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup are as follows:

Group A: Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal FC, Hyderabad FC, 1st placed I-league team

Group A will consist of Kolkata Giants Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal FC, Hyderabad FC and the 1st placed I-League team. The Kolkata derby will also be up on display in the 2024 Kalinga Super Cup.

Group B: Kerala Blasters FC, NorthEast United FC, Jamshedpur FC, 2nd placed I-League team

The second group will be formed by Kerala Blasters FC, NorthEast United FC, Jamshedpur FC and the second placed I-League team. 

Group C: Mumbai City FC, Chennaiyin FC, Punjab FC, 3rd placed I-League team

Groups revealed.

Defending ISL Shield winners Mumbai City FC will be a part of Group C alongside former Champions Chennaiyin FC and the ISL’s latest entrants Punjab FC. They will also be joined by the third placed I-League team.

Group D: FC Goa, Odisha FC, Bengaluru FC, 4th placed I-League team

Group D will consist of FC Goa, Odisha FC and Bengaluru FC and the fourth placed I-League team. It can very well be termed as the ‘Group of Death’ as all the teams have the ability to destroy their opponents.
