Cristian Romero suffered an injury against Everton

A huge setback for Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham Hotspur side as their star centre-back and World Cup winner Cristian Romero will miss the next four to five weeks due to a hamstring injury.

The manager has confirmed that he will be without the Argentine and he is likely to return to action in February.

The injury is a fresh setback for Spurs, who are already without his centre-back partner Micky van de Ven due to a hamstring injury.

Revealing the news about Romero ahead of their trip to Brighton, Postecoglou said: “No, no. He’s no good. He’s had a scan, so he’ll be out for four or five weeks.

“Everyone else got through it okay. There’s a few sore bodies there but we’ve had a, sort of, easier training week, last few days anyway, but everyone else is okay.”

When asked about Micky van de Veen returning to training soon, he said: “Where did he say that? Ah the darts. I wouldn’t put too much in what the players say mate.

“I don’t think [he’ll be back for] Burnley, maybe for Man United but I wouldn’t know until I see him in training. He’s at the tail end of it now.”

Richarlison also had a sore back from training the day before the Everton win which meant he came off just after the hour mark, despite scoring early to make it four goals in three games for the Brazilian.

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to target new players in the January transfer window. The North London club will also loan out or even sell a few players during the transfer window. This will be a busy time for Spurs and their manager.
