Victor Osimhen’s release clause REVEALED following new Napoli contract
Victor Osimhen has 18 months left on his contract
In a big setback for Chelsea, Victor Osimhen is set to sign a new contract with Napoli that includes a possible €130 million (£112 million/$141 million) release clause.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli and Osimhen have fully understood a new deal. The striker’s contract expires after the following season, but an extension until 2026 and a possible release clause are expected.
Osimhen boasts six goals in 11 Serie A games this season, and the report suggests that his new deal may reflect his value by including a release clause worth up to €130 million. The clause’s exact worth is unknown, but Chelsea will be devastated to learn of a possible new deal given rumours that they may make a move to recruit the forward in January.
Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 after being recruited from Lille. In addition to paying a club-record €70 million (£60 million/$76 million) in add-ons, the Serie A team may make a significant profit should his release clause ever come into play.
Asked if he wants to continue playing in Europe, Osimhen said: ‘Of course.

‘What was said was true, I had talks, in August that week was a huge one, a huge decision for me to take, but I actually put it in God’s hands.
‘But the more I said no to these people [in Saudi Arabia] the more they increased it and increased it, it was literally like, ‘wow’, seeing these things.
‘I spoke with the people in charge and we spoke about it with my club and we saw what we could do, we decided, me and them and I told them, ‘I like these people, I want to stay, I don’t think I want to leave for now’. They understand where I’m coming from but they never gave up until their own transfer window [closed].
‘I said to them even before we played the first game of the season, ‘it’s done’, I really didn’t want to go back thinking, of course it’s a huge one, an amazing one that’s going to change my life but of course I had to make the decision that’s good for my career too.
‘As much as we play football for money there’s more that comes with it.’
The 24-year-old will hopefully continue to score goals for Napoli in the interim, but a significant move is imminent soon. However, considering what Chelsea spent during the 2023 winter window, a massive January bid from them shouldn’t be completely discounted.
