India set to drop four places in latest FIFA rankings after AFC Asian Cup 2023 group stage

The Blue Tigers lost their Group B opener 2-0 to Australia on Saturday.
The AFC Asian Cup 2023 is well and truly underway. After the opening clash, India and Australia went up against each other in the Group B curtain-raiser. The match ended 2-0 in favour of the Socceroos.
India put up a very strong fight and exceeded expectations after holding Australia to a 0-0 at the stroke of half-time. The Blue Tigers defended with hearts on their sleeves and did not let anything pass through them.
However, Australia did manage to find a way through in the 50th minute as Jackson Irvine netter the opener. Left back Jordan Bos then added a second in the 73rd minute to wrap up the tie in favour of the men from down under.
The result, apart from affecting both teams’ position in the group, also held significance in terms how it will affect their latest FIFA Rankings.
India drop points and positions
It isn’t an ideal start to the New Year for the Indian football team as they are set to drop down to 106 from 102 following their 2-0 defeat to Australia in their opening game of the AFC Asian Cup 2023. This will be true irrespective of results in their remaining two group matches against Uzbekistan and Syria.
The Blue Tigers are set to concede four places and will find themselves at the 106th position when the new FIFA rankings are revealed in a few days. India lost 7.47 points due to their defeat and the number of goals they conceded.
Australia to climb up the ladder
The Socceroos, on the other hand, have not just made a perfect start to their AFC Asian Cup 2023 campaign, but are also set to move up the ladder in the FIFA Rankings. Australia will climb a place to be ranked 24th following their 2-0 win over India.
The men from Down Under have not had a major change in the rankings, but this will certainly boost their confidence going further into the tournament. They have gained 7.47 points following their first victory in the tournament.
