AFC Asian Cup 2023 updated knockout stage bracket: Uzbekistan earn narrow win over Thailand

The AFC Asian Cup 2023 Round of 16 delivered another stunning encounter as Uzbekistan battled against Thailand in a hard-fought contest, ultimately securing their place in the Quarter-finals. Uzbekistan, showing dominance for the majority of the game, faced a resilient Thai defense that stood tall and made it an even contest.
The breakthrough for Uzbekistan came in the 37th minute when Azizbek Turgunboev opened the scoring. However, Thailand responded with determination, as Supachok Sarachat found the net in the 58th minute, leveling the score. The game hung in the balance until the 65th minute when Abbosbek Fayzullaev struck the decisive blow, scoring the winner and sending Uzbekistan through to the Quarter-finals.
In the second game on Monday, Qatar showcased their resilience, coming from behind against Palestine to secure their spot in the Quarter-finals. The stage is now set for an intense clash between Uzbekistan and host Qatar on February 3 at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The Quarter-final matchups continue to promise enthralling football battles. Australia, having asserted dominance in the Round of 16, eagerly await their opponent from the clash between Saudi Arabia and South Korea. On the other side, Tajikistan, the underdogs who upset the United Arab Emirates, are set to lock horns against Jordan, who dramatically came from behind against Iraq to win the tie. The winner of this intense encounter will move forward, one step closer to the coveted AFC Asian Cup title.
As the tournament progresses, the Semi-finals will witness fierce battles to determine the finalists. The clash between Australia vs South Korea/Saudi Arabia and Tajikistan vs Jordan will unfold, showcasing the teams’ determination to etch their names in AFC Asian Cup history.
