India will play their first AFC Asian Cup 2023 game against Australia on January 13.

The head coach of the Indian football team, Igor Stimac, took to his social media accounts to post images of the Indian team alongside the newly appointed assistant coach, Trevor Sinclair and the legendary Serbian football manager, Bora Milutinovic for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

At first, the coach gave a message about the preparations of the Indian team for the upcoming tournament. He wrote, “Preparations for the Asian Cup are off to a great start.”

It was followed by an appreciation for the assistant coach Trevor Sinclair, who joined the team on December 29, 2023, where he mentioned, “Trevor Sinclair has been an extremely valuable addition to the #BlueTigers family. His experience and knowledge will help us all out a lot.”

Trevor has been a teammate of coach Igor Stimac during their stint in West Ham United. His role entails providing support to the Indian players in improving their set-piece execution and wing play. This inclusion is expected to significantly enhance the team’s performance as they strive to make a notable impact in the upcoming tournament.

At the end, he thanked Bora Milutinovic who found some time and interacted with the team during their training session in Qatar. He wrote, “Also, I want to thank my friend Bora Milutinovic for spending some time with the boys and sharing his vast coaching experience with us.”

Bora Milutinovic pleasantly surprised the Indian team with a visit at the onset of the new year, offering valuable insights into the game. The esteemed coach boasts a remarkable track record of consecutively guiding five teams to the FIFA World Cup, which includes Mexico in 1986, Costa Rica in 1990, the United States of America in 1994, Nigeria in 1998 and China in 2002.

The Blue Tigers are placed in Group B of the 2023 Asian Cup, alongside Australia, Syria and Uzbekistan. They will play their first match on January 13th against Australia, followed by Uzbekistan and Syria on January 18th and January 23rd respectively.
