Ibrahim Alma, Omar Khribin key players to watch as Syria name AFC Asian Cup 2023 squad

Veteran Argentine coach Hector Cuper is set to guide Syria in the upcoming Asian Cup.
The Syrian national team, currently positioned 91st in the FIFA World Ranking, is fully prepared to confront their adversaries at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Their campaign is scheduled to commence on the 13th of January against Uzbekistan.
They have been placed in Group B of the tournament, along with Australia, Uzbekistan and India. The Syrian squad for national duties in Doha comprises 26 members, including four goalkeepers, eight defenders, nine midfielders, and five forwards.

A look through the team and the support staff
The Syrian team is currently under the guidance of the renowned Argentine coach, Hector Cuper. His extensive coaching experience includes working with top-tier players such as Ronaldo Nazario, during his tenure with Inter Milan, and Mo Salah, while coaching the Egyptian national team.
Moreover, he played a pivotal role in leading Valencia to the finals of the Champions League on two occasions and guiding the Egyptian national team to the runner-up position in the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.
The squad’s most capped player is goalkeeper Ibrahim Alma, who has made 84 appearances for the national side. Meanwhile, Omar Khribin holds the title of top goal scorer in the squad, having scored 21 goals in 54 matches.
Team’s record in AFC Asian Cup
The Syrian national team has taken part in the AFC Asian Cup on six occasions. Their inaugural appearance was in 1980, and they also qualified for the 2019 edition. Regrettably, they have never progressed to the next round in any of their six appearances.
Syria’s Fixture for 2023 AFC Asian Cup
Syria is scheduled to play two friendly matches prior to the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Their first match is against Kyrgyzstan on the 5th of January, followed by a second match against Malaysia on 8th of January.

23rd January: Syria vs India
