With an aim to promote footballing culture in Odisha, Juggernauts Sporting Foundation (JSF) has announced the Ekaamra Cup Street Football Championship which will begin from February in the state capital Bhubaneswar. 64 teams with more than 600 footballers will be taking part in this, first of its kind, grand football competition in Odisha. The Department of Sports & Youth Services, Govt. of Odisha has also extended its support for the championship.

In the first-ever press meet for an amateur competition today, trophy for the competition was unveiled in presence of Mr. Gaurav Chawla, Managing Director of Opulent Decor by Haryana Handlooms, Mr. Raj Athwal, Club President of Odisha Football Club (OFC) and Mr. Projjal Prajna Das, Director of JSF

Ekaamra Cup Street Football Championship will be powered by Opulent Decor and Mr. Chawla expressed his happiness. He said, “We are quite confident that this initiative by JSF will be a new chapter in Odisha sports. Football is the most popular sport in the world and we, in India, shouldn’t fall behind. We are trying to do our best to support the young organisers and are hopeful that Ekaamra Cup will be a big success.”

He added, “this is a great chance for many amateur footballers to showcase their talent on a proper platform. The stage is now set with the launch of this event. We are leaving no stone unturned in providing a lifetime experience to all the participating teams and footballers. This is also the first ever press meet for an amateur level football competition which sets a precedent to the professional approach we are adopting for community engagement. The tournament will see 64 amateur teams taking part with over 600 footballers getting a chance to pry their trade and playing for the grand prize and the Ekaamra Cup.”

Speaking on the occasion, Projjal said, “This tournament will promote sustainability in community engagement and if tournaments like these will be held on a regular basis then it will definitely motivate the younger generation to take up the sport. This is the biggest incentive for an amateur competition which should attract more players in the coming editions.”

“We are delighted to be associated with a grand event like this where we have joined hands with a belief that this street football championship will help in generating more interest for football in Odisha. With the inclusion of 2 teams from the Socially and Economically Backward Community of the society, we are promoting that Football is for All and with incentivised events like these we are expecting enhanced interest among different sections of the society. We are also ensuring that all the plastic used during the tournament including physical assets, brandings, single-use, etc. are all recycled after culmination of the tournament”, said Mr. Athwal on behalf of OFC.

The press meet, held this evening at Prangan by Mango Hotels, was attended by the friends from media along with Odisha FC fans The Juggernauts who wished all the luck to the organisers who are trying to make a mark in Odisha’s sports history.
