ISL 2023-24: Isaac Vanmalsawma signs for Punjab FC

The 27-year-old is yet to play a game in ISL 2023-24.
In a significant development in the Indian Super League (ISL), Odisha FC midfielder Isaac Vanmalsawma joins Punjab FC on a permanent deal, Khel Now can exclusively reveal. It has been learnt that it will be a short term contract between the player & the new entrants of ISL.
A source close to the situation revealed that the move is imminent, with Punjab FC keen on strengthening their midfield for the remainder of the season. “Punjab FC are set to sign Isaac on a permanent deal addressing the ongoing midfield concern in the team.”
Punjab FC are currently occupying the 11th position in the league standings after twelve games.The team has struggled to find consistency in their debut ISL campaign. Coach Staikos Vergetis is determined to turn the tide in the second phase of the season, aiming for an improved performance to climb up the table.
Isaac Vanmalsawma’s addition to the squad is seen as a strategic move by Punjab FC to address their midfield concerns. It is worth noting that Isaac has not featured even once for the Jaggernauts in the ongoing ISL campaign. The 27-year-old midfielder, known for his technical prowess and versatility, could bring a much-needed spark to the team’s midfield dynamics. His experience in the league, having previously played for Odisha FC and Jamshedpur FC, makes him a valuable asset for Punjab FC.
The decision to secure Isaac on a permanent deal signals the club’s proactive approach to strengthening key areas in their debut ISL season. The Shers will host Bengaluru FC in the first of double headers on 3rd February in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the Nation Capital.
Punjab FC made history by being the first side to earn promotion from the I-League to the ISL, adding an extra layer of significance to their debut campaign. Coach Vergetis will be eager to instill confidence in his players and implement a tactical approach that can propel Punjab FC higher up the standings.
