Lallianzuala Chhangte is perhaps the best Indian winger right now.
Indian national football team and Mumbai City FC’s 26-year-old forward, Lallianzuala Chhangte, has proven clinical for the Islanders down the timeline. So far, he has been a formidable counterpart for the opposition’s backlines this season.
The AIFF Men’s Player of the Year awardee from the 2022-23 season joined the Islanders initially on a six-month loan deal from Chennaiyin FC with a pre-contract agreed during the 2021-22 season of the Indian top flight. The contract was triggered later at the end of the season. He has been donning the same outfit since then and has found the back of the net on 20 occasions in his 61 appearances to date.
Mumbai City FC, who are currently placed fourth in the Indian Super League, sealed victory in their last league fixture against the Marina Machans. The game which ended with a 3-0 scoreline for the Islanders saw three future assets of the Blue Tigers – Lallianzuala Chhangte, Vikram Pratap, and Gurkirat Singh, take their names to the scoresheet.
Later, Chhangte got to his Instagram handle to share a moment from the game where he was pointing to the sky while celebrating after his 52nd-minute goal. However, it was the caption of that post that took all the netizens into a state of astonishment. It read, “Psalm 23:1-6.” Psalm, also known as the Psalter, is an Old Testament book and the first volume of the Hebrew Bible’s Ketuvim section. It’s a compilation of religious hymns penned down in Hebrew.

“Psalm 23:1-6” is a verse of Pastor John Miller from Psalm 23 titled, “The Lord My Shepherd.” This particular verse which the Islanders’ #7 has referred to in the caption says, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.” It teaches us that even if it’s a turbulent world, God will always be with us through it all.
