ISL 2023-24: Mumbai City FC part ways with Rostyn Griffiths & Nasser El Khayati

Rostyn Griffiths won the ISL League Shield in the 2022-23 season with Mumbai City FC.
Ahead of the Indian Super League (ISL) second leg, Mumbai City FC has decided to part ways with two of its foreign players, Rostyn Griffiths and Nasser El Khayati. The club confirmed the mutual decision to terminate their contracts in an official statement published earlier today.
Rostyn Griffiths was a pivotal figure in Mumbai City FC’s triumph in clinching the league shield last season but has now departed the club by mutual agreement. Alongside Griffiths, Nasser El Khayati, the Dutch midfielder who joined the Islanders in September 2023, has also terminated his contract to pursue opportunities closer to home.
Nasser El Khayati’s departure comes after his notable contributions to Mumbai City FC’s campaigns, including a goal scored in the 2023-24 AFC Champions League against PFC Navbahor. During his short stint with the club, he demonstrated his abilities by scoring key goals against Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League and against Gokulam Kerala in the recently held 2024 Kalinga Super Cup.
The club expressed their gratitude to both players for the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment they displayed while playing for the Highlanders. Because of the extraordinary journey both Nasser El Khayati and Rostyn has taken with Mumbai City FC, the club has extended its best wishes for their future aspirations and has acknowledged their achievements.
With the ISL second leg looming large, all eyes are now on Mumbai City FC as they prepare to face Jamshedpur FC on February 4, 2024, at the Mumbai Football Arena. The departure of Griffiths and El Khayati prompts speculation about how the team will reorganize its playing style and roster dynamics. Fans of the Highlanders eagerly await the club’s moves in the transfer market as they seek potential replacements for the departed duo.
Thus, the departure of Griffiths and El Khayati marks a transitional phase for Mumbai City FC as they navigate through the rigors of the Indian Super League. With fond memories and appreciation for their contributions, the club looks ahead to new challenges and opportunities in the footballing arena.
